Day by day
Suggested itinerary
See each day's route, highlights, background and stay together in one place.
Check Observatory warnings and first-day transport, then pack with an umbrella, light jacket, power bank, and walking shoes as priorities.
In hot weather, replenish water and take indoor breaks. If heavy rain causes problems with wet shoes or batteries, reduce outdoor travel.
Each night, get your jacket, charging gear, and umbrella ready again based on the next day’s weather. Don’t keep carrying single-use items you haven’t used.
Places and meals
Save your accommodation address, reservation QR code, travel insurance contact details, and route back to the airport for offline use.
Google MapsHow to fit it in
Bring a compact umbrella and breathable walking shoes. Keep your light jacket for air-conditioned spaces near the top of your day bag rather than compressing it. Before departure, connect your British-style Type G adapter and charging cables together to check that they work together.
Reality check
Save information about the payment method you’ll use, such as Octopus, your accommodation’s address in English and Chinese, and your first route from the airport to your accommodation for offline reference. Account for stairs at MTR exits when packing your suitcase; aim for a weight you can lift with one hand.
Spend 30 minutes before departure saving weather warnings, first-day transport details, and reservation QR codes. Set aside 10 minutes each night to charge your power bank and dry your wet umbrella and shoes.
First check whether you already have a Type G adapter, charging cable, and small umbrella to reduce the cost of emergency purchases locally. Instead of buying toiletries, check whether your accommodation provides them and bring travel sizes. Set aside budget for transit to replace walking if your shoes get wet, rather than for consumables.
In hot weather, build water breaks and air-conditioned rest into your schedule. On wet stone steps, prioritize slip-resistant soles. If heavy rain or typhoon warnings escalate, don’t go out to buy more supplies; follow transport service updates and your accommodation’s guidance.
If plans change
Keep an outer layer, umbrella, charging gear, and comfortable walking shoes, and cut clothes you'll wear only once during the trip first. If heavy rain is forecast, replace outdoor stops with indoor plans instead of packing a larger umbrella.
Small tip
Check Hong Kong Observatory rainstorm and tropical cyclone warnings, not just the rain forecast. During a severe warning, the issue isn’t whether to bring a sturdier umbrella: move cable car, ferry, and outdoor viewpoint plans indoors, and check whether transport services are operating.
Final check before departure
