At a glance
- If you’re staying in Sukhumvit, Pier 21 at Terminal 21, where BTS Asok and MRT Sukhumvit meet, is a good first option. It’s an indoor food court featured on the operator’s official page, making it easy to change your meal plans if it rains or there’s a wait. Check the menu and listed prices on the day, then choose a rice or noodle dish.
- A specific Silom option is the Saladaeng branch of Somtum Der (5/5 Sala Daeng Road). Save the branch address on your map for access from BTS Sala Daeng or MRT Silom, and choose share plates and a spice level from the official Saladaeng menu. Ask specifically about ingredients to avoid, such as shrimp, peanuts, or fish sauce, before ordering. If it’s full, switch to a restaurant with a posted menu in the same Sala Daeng station area.
- For a reservation, confirm the branch, time, menu, and total including tax and service charge. Keep a nearby restaurant serving rice or noodle dishes as a backup that doesn’t require a reservation.
- The official Saladaeng menu, Der_2026.pdf, lists Tum Thai (Thai-style papaya salad) at 80 baht per plate and Tum Kaopod Kai Kem (corn and salted egg salad) at 140 baht per plate. Those are prices for individual share plates, not complete meals for one person. If you’re dining alone, ask about ordering one salad with rice and a main dish. If there are two of you, decide how many share plates to order and ask staff about the portions. The menu lists a 10% service charge and 7% VAT separately, so check the order subtotal and final bill after adding drinks and rice.
Day by day
Suggested itinerary
See each day's route, highlights, background and stay together in one place.
Pick one area with a short trip back to your hotel in the evening. Don’t book lunch and dinner in different areas on the same day.
In Sukhumvit, check the day’s menu at Pier 21 in Terminal 21 Asok. In Silom, choose noodles, rice with a topping, or share plates at a restaurant with a posted menu in the Sala Daeng station area. Ask about spice level, allergens, and how many dishes or portions to order first.
Rest in an indoor space near your chosen station, and check that the dinner restaurant is open and how long the wait is. If it’s full, switch to another restaurant near the same station.
Finish your meal in the same area, then return by BTS, MRT, or a ride-hailing vehicle with a confirmed fare. Don’t rely on the last train if it would leave you walking along a dark route to your hotel.

Reality check
Use BTS for Sukhumvit, and BTS Sala Daeng or MRT Silom for Silom. During rush hour, trains are more predictable than road traffic. Transfers between operators require separate fare gates.
Allow 60–90 minutes for lunch in one area, 2 hours for an indoor break and nearby walk, and 90 minutes for dinner. This comparison is about choosing one area near your hotel, not a food tour that visits both Sukhumvit and Silom.
Before ordering, check the day’s total price, including the menu items, service charge, tax, and drinks.
Plan a safe route back before it gets late. Take well-lit main roads between the BTS or MRT station and your hotel. Wait for a ride-hailing vehicle in a busy place where it can stop.
If plans change
Choose another restaurant that’s open in the area where you are. Don’t travel back and forth between Sukhumvit and Silom to look for a lunch option.
Take a break in an indoor space connected to the same station, then rework your dinner plans and return trip. Reduce travel distance instead of trying to visit more restaurants.
Small tip
Even within the same area, walking or taking the BTS can be faster than a taxi, so consider travel before and after your meal.
Final check before departure
- Choose one area, Sukhumvit or Silom, close to your hotel.
- Save lunch and dinner options in the same area, along with backup restaurants’ opening hours, days off, posted menus, and payment options. Check whether last orders are taken before closing time.
- Ask about spice level, allergens, and the portion size for a meal for one or share plates before ordering.
- Check not just the BTS or MRT last train, but also a well-lit route from the station to your hotel.
BTS and MRT are run by separate operators, so check the day’s official route planner for transfers and last trains. Consider a restaurant only if you can confirm its opening status, menu, tax, and service charge on a branch-specific booking page or official account.
