At a glance
- Chatuchak is a daytime market; jazz and supermarket visits are separate evening options. Don’t plan to go straight from the market to a show and more shopping.
- On the day you visit, check the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s official Chatuchak information for operating details, then explore just one or two areas you need. Rest at your hotel or somewhere indoors during the hottest hours.
- For evening jazz, choose a place such as The Bamboo Bar only if its operators have posted that day’s performance and reservation details. If the timing doesn’t work, don’t force a substitute show; have dinner near your hotel instead.
- If you need a supermarket, pick one location, such as Gourmet Market at EmQuartier, to visit at a different time from the market. Don’t carry heavy purchases around the market; sort them out after returning to your hotel.

Rest at your hotel or indoors and sort out your purchases. Leave plenty of time between the market and your evening destination.
If The Bamboo Bar’s performance and reservation details work for you, visit just that one venue. If you need a supermarket, consider Gourmet Market at EmQuartier as a separate option.

Reality check
For Chatuchak, use BTS Mo Chit or MRT Kamphaeng Phet or Chatuchak Park station as your transit reference. Evening venues may be far from the market, so it’s safer to set out again from your hotel.
Allow 3–4 hours in the morning for the market. Set aside a separate 3 hours for a café, evening plans, and the supermarket, and make sure you get at least 2 hours of rest during the midday heat.
Instead of relying on an unsupported daily budget, set your own limits for transport, meals, and purchases. Check with each shop whether cash and card payments are accepted.
At the market, watch out for dehydration and lost belongings, and don’t stop in the middle of a walkway to look at your phone. At night, don’t leave your drink unattended, and arrange your ride home in advance.
If plans change
On weekdays, choose cafés and a museum or shopping mall instead of the weekend market, and add a supermarket visit in the evening.
Spend just two hours at the market, then head to a nearby park and the Ari café area.
Small tip
Chatuchak mainly operates on weekends, so check the day and current opening status first.
Final check before departure
- Check TAT’s latest Chatuchak operating information and city transit service for your visit date.
- Decide what you want to buy, your budget, and your luggage weight limit. At the market, visit only the areas you need.
- For the evening, check the performance and reservation details posted by the venue, then choose either a jazz bar or a supermarket.
The official Chatuchak Market information says the full market is open Saturday and Sunday from 09:00 to 18:00, with only some areas operating on weekdays. Check individual shops separately, as well as evening venue performances and reservations.
