At a glance
- Busan Station, Nampo Station, and Jagalchi Station are on Line 1; Gwangan and Haeundae Stations are on Line 2. To get from Busan Station to the eastern coast, transfer at Seomyeon. If you have large bags, avoid going all the way to Haeundae on arrival day and then doubling back to Nampo-dong.
- Adding Songdo means a round trip by bus or taxi from your Nampo-dong walk. Experiences like the Songdo Cable Car and Haeundae Beach Train are not included in the urban rail pass. If you book two timed activities, first check whether there’s enough time to travel and eat between reservations.
- Plan meals within the areas you visit, such as one meal near the Nampo-dong markets and dinner by the coast. Traveling to another coastal area just to wait in line at a particular restaurant cuts into your evening stroll.
Time to set aside between arrival and departure
How to pace each day
This sample itinerary is based on a two-night stay in Seomyeon. If you arrive late, have dinner in Seomyeon instead of exploring the old downtown on day one.
Busan Station → Nampo-dong and Jagalchi Market → Bupyeong-dong → hotel in Seomyeon
Take Line 1 and leave about 3 hours for the market, alleyways, and a meal.
Seomyeon → Haeundae and Dongbaekseom Island → evening in Haeundae or Gwangalli
Combine Line 2 with walking. For travel between the two coastal areas, add the walk to the station to the train time shown in your search.
Meal near your hotel → pick up your bags → Busan Station or Gimhae Airport
For the airport, search a route that includes the Busan-Gimhae Light Rail. Its ticket coverage differs from the route to Busan Station.

How to fit it in
On day one of your two-night, three-day trip, head from Busan Station to Nampo-dong and Jagalchi to explore the old downtown. Spend half a day in Haeundae and on Dongbaekseom Island on day two, then choose either Haeundae or Gwangalli for your evening by the sea. On your last day, pick up your bags near your hotel before setting off. Staying in Seomyeon makes it easy to reach both areas via Lines 1 and 2.
Reality check
Plan to get around mainly by subway and on foot. From the airport, compare routes that connect to the Busan-Gimhae Light Rail and Line 2 at Sasang Station. The urban rail pass is valid only on Busan Transportation Corporation Lines 1–4; city buses, the Donghae Line, and the Busan-Gimhae Light Rail require separate payment. If you’ll also take buses, it’s simpler to estimate your total travel cost using a transit card.
A two-night, three-day trip with half a day for the old downtown and half a day for Haeundae and Dongbaekseom Island works well for a first visit. Set aside 2–3 hours for a meal and a stroll at one spot for the night view. These are suggested planning times. If you need to transfer back to your hotel at night, decide when to leave the beach before the last train.
A regular one-day urban rail pass costs 6,000 won, and a three-day pass costs 13,000 won. The one-day pass is valid on the day you first enter through the ticket gate; the three-day pass is valid for three consecutive days starting with the day you first enter. Compare the total cost of using a transit card with the pass, based on whether you’ll make just a round trip or board and exit several times in a day. Tourist trains, cable cars, and the airport light rail cost extra.
Watch your step on wet coastal stairs and be careful in strong winds. Do not cross safety barriers or restricted-area boundaries put in place because of waves. After enjoying the night view in Gwangalli, check the last train in the direction you’re traveling and the train on the line you’ll transfer to. Catching the last train on your first line does not guarantee you’ll make your connection. At night, return to the station along well-lit main roads.
If plans change
Swap the coastal stops for indoor activities in Seomyeon and Nampo-dong.
Finish dinner in the same area as your hotel.
Small tip
If you want to see the sea at night and walk back to your hotel, compare Haeundae and Gwangalli. If you plan to visit different areas each day, consider Seomyeon. Look up the walk from Gwangan Station to Gwangalli Beach and from Haeundae Station to your actual hotel. Hotels using the same station name can still involve different final walks, depending on which exit you use.
Final check before departure
- Save the station exit closest to your hotel entrance on your map, and ask how long you can leave your bags there.
- Check the Busan Transportation Corporation fare table for pass validity periods and excluded services, then compare using a transit card with buying a pass.
- Check operating hours, cancellation policies, and last admission times for timed activities, along with beach events and weather-related restrictions.
Check subway service, ticket coverage, beach events, and access restrictions for your visit date.
