At a glance
- Your timed Nasrid Palaces entry determines the schedule for the whole visit to the Alhambra.
- Visit the Albaicín and Sacromonte in daylight for the views and walks through the lanes.
- When combining Granada with Seville or Córdoba, don’t try to squeeze the travel day too tightly.
- When checking your Alhambra ticket, check not only the visit date but also the name of each visitor, the ID each visitor needs, and the Nasrid Palaces entry time. Allow for the trip uphill from your accommodation to the entrance and time for ticket checks. Plan the order of your visit so you don’t miss your timed entry while walking around other areas.
Day by day
Suggested itinerary
See each day's route, highlights, background and stay together in one place.
Arrive in Granada - walk through the Albaicín - San Nicolás viewpoint
Alhambra - Generalife gardens - dinner in the Old Town
Take a brief look around Granada Cathedral, then travel to your booked departure station or bus terminal. Choose only an afternoon departure to one city, either Seville or Córdoba. Don’t schedule an Alhambra interior visit that morning.
History and context
The Alhambra is a complex of palaces, gardens, and fortifications from the Islamic dynasties.
Granada’s streets bring together traces of Islamic culture and the Catholic kingdoms.
Places and meals
Check entry times and areas in advance.
Google MapsYou’ll enjoy the visit more if you set aside separate time for the gardens as well as the palaces.
Google MapsA signature viewpoint across from the Alhambra.
Google MapsFood and restaurants
- Granada’s tapas culture fits a relaxed travel schedule well.
- Tables at restaurants with a view fill quickly, so time your meal around your walk through the Albaicín.
How to fit it in
A good fit for travelers who want to take their time at the Alhambra and spend half a day in the Old Town and the lanes of the Albaicín.
Reality check
For travel on day 3, check Renfe departures from Granada railway station separately from ALSA departures from Granada Estación de Autobuses (Av. de Juan Pablo II, 33). Official ALSA buses from Granada to Seville take about 3–5 hours, depending on the service. After a walk around the cathedral, choose an afternoon departure that leaves time to reach the terminal, handle luggage, and board. Córdoba-bound buses also depart from different stops depending on the service, and train journey times vary by date and whether a transfer is required, so compare actual services using your destination and departure station. Don’t schedule an Alhambra visit on the morning of your travel day.
Allow at least half a day, including travel, for the Alhambra, and a separate half day for the Albaicín. Don’t squeeze both into the morning of a travel day.
As of 2026-10-04, the Alhambra’s official standard daytime ticket costs €22.27 and includes the Nasrid Palaces, Alcazaba, and Generalife. Online booking service fees, transportation between your accommodation and the palace, meals, and day 3 train or bus tickets between cities are extra. The gardens-only ticket is cheaper, but it does not include entry to the Nasrid Palaces, so check that the areas you want are included and confirm the total at checkout for your visit date.
The Albaicín’s lanes are dark at night and easy to get lost in. Late at night, stick to main streets and prioritize returning by taxi.
If plans change
Don’t buy a ticket with a similar name; plan your day around an Albaicín viewpoint and the Monastery of Cartuja instead.
Walk the hills just after sunrise or around sunset, and rest indoors near the cathedral during the midday heat.
Small tip
If Nasrid Palaces tickets are unavailable, first check which parts of the Alhambra you can still visit. Don’t chase questionable resale tickets; you can instead spend the day in the Albaicín and at the Monastery of Cartuja.
Final check before departure
- Check the name on your passport and your Nasrid Palaces entry time.
- Save the bus stop for the Alhambra.
- Check your route back from the Albaicín after sunset.
The first contingency to check is what to do if Nasrid Palaces tickets are unavailable. Check opening hours and booking availability for your visit date, and calculate any changes to transport costs and your accommodation budget. Don’t buy a ticket with a similar name; plan your day around an Albaicín viewpoint and the Monastery of Cartuja instead.
