At a glance
- In Nice, plan separate time for the Old Town market and a beach walk.
- Eze is known for its hill paths and views, so wear comfortable shoes.
- A half-day in Monaco is enough to see its highlights; you don’t need a full day.
- Eze Village is the hilltop village, while Eze-Sur-Mer is the coastal train station. Getting off the train does not take you directly to the village. Don’t use the Nietzsche Path as a transfer route on foot with luggage because of its slope and trail surface.
Day by day
Suggested itinerary
See each day's route, highlights, background and stay together in one place.
After arriving, take an easy walk through Old Nice and along the Promenade des Anglais, then spend the night in Nice.
Check the service on bus 82 from Nice Vauban to Eze Village and spend 2–3 hours in the hilltop village. Save the times for two return buses, then head back to Nice for a late lunch. Leave Monaco out of the standard plan for this day.
If you have a late departure, choose either the Matisse Museum or a beach walk. If you can set aside a separate half-day for Monaco, plan to take the train from Nice Ville to Monaco-Monte-Carlo.
History and context
Nice is strongly associated with the resort city culture left by European aristocrats and artists.
Eze shows the layout of a medieval village built on a hill for defense and views.
Places and meals
A classic route for a coastal walk in Nice.
Google MapsA market in the Old Town for flowers, produce, and snacks.
Google MapsThe main draws are its hilltop lanes and Mediterranean views.
Google MapsA good choice for iconic sights if you extend your trip with a half-day in Monaco.
Google MapsFood and restaurants
- A light, easygoing food routine centered on Niçoise salad, socca, seafood, and olives works well.
- You can manage food costs by planning market snacks and dinner by the beach as separate meals.
Socca is an easy snack while walking around the market, and Niçoise salad is a good lunch choice on a hot day. Choose a seafood dinner after checking the route to the beach and your budget.

Hilltop village Google MapsOn a day in Monaco, choose whether to have dinner there or return to Nice for dinner. If the return train or bus schedule is tight, eat in Old Nice.
Half-day extension Google MapsHow to fit it in
If you want to see a side of France completely different from Paris, adding 2–3 nights in Nice is a great option.
Reality check
For the hilltop village, first consider taking Lignes d'Azur route 82 from Nice Vauban to the Eze Village stop. Allow about 40 minutes as planning buffer; check actual travel time and frequency in the operator's route planner for your visit date. If you arrive by train at coastal Èze-sur-Mer, check the date-specific connection and last bus on route 83 to the separate hilltop village. If route 83 doesn't work, don't plan to replace it with the steep climb up the Nietzsche Path from the coastal station.
Allow at least half a day for Èze, including travel, the uphill walk, and exploring the village. Allow half a day for Monaco as well. If you have two nights, choose one; with three nights, visit them on separate days.
Calculate round-trip bus fare between Nice and Eze separately from round-trip TER train fare to Monaco. Buying a city transit pass doesn’t mean TER trains or every coastal route are included. Distinguish a walk around Eze’s lanes from paid admission to Jardin Exotique. Add the fare shown in the official bus app for your travel date to the garden ticket price, then set a lunch limit. Don’t include taxis as part of the basic round-trip budget for times when buses are infrequent.
At the beach, don’t leave your belongings unattended while you swim. Watch for pickpockets in the lanes of Old Nice and on trains.
If plans change
Don’t add transfers; check when the next bus to Eze departs that day. If no bus fits your schedule, skip Eze and spend time in Old Nice, below Castle Hill, or at the beach.
Skip cliff paths and beach walks; go to whichever is open, the Matisse Museum or the Chagall Museum.
Small tip
Coastal accommodation prices rise sharply in summer, so consider both access to Nice train station and access to the beach.
Final check before departure
- Check the bus number and stop for the route to Eze.
- Save information on coastal rail works and return services from Monaco.
- Check whether cliffside paths are open and make sure your shoes are in good condition.
The first thing to check is a backup plan if the bus to Eze is full. Check operating hours and booking availability for your travel date, and calculate alternative transport costs and accommodation costs together. Don’t add transfers; check when the next bus to Eze departs that day. If no bus fits your schedule, skip Eze and spend time in Old Nice, below Castle Hill, or at the beach.
