At a glance
- The Airport Express takes about 24 minutes from the airport to Hong Kong Station, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be at your hotel in 24 minutes. Kowloon Station is separate from Tsim Sha Tsui Station, so factor in the final walk with your bags or a taxi or MTR transfer.
- If you’re staying around Tsim Sha Tsui, Jordan, or Mong Kok near Nathan Road, check the A21 stops first. For Sheung Wan, Central, Wan Chai, or Causeway Bay, compare the A11. The walk from the bus stop to your hotel matters more than the route name.
- At arrivals, enter your hotel address in your map app and note the number of transfers, stairs, and walking distance after getting off for both the train and bus options. If the arrival times differ by about 15 minutes and the bus stops nearby, it may be easier with bulky luggage.

Collect bags → walk to hotel → save the stop for your return trip
How to fit it in
Using your accommodation address, save the rail station where you will get off and the nearest A11 or A21 bus stop where you can get off. After clearing immigration, choose one option based on your actual departure time and luggage.
Reality check
For the train, get off at the Airport Express station—Hong Kong, Kowloon, or Tsing Yi—that best connects to your hotel. For the bus, find the stop for your route at the airport’s ground transportation center and check the order of stops toward the city. Your return-trip stop may be across the road from where you arrived.
Plan on 24 minutes by train to Hong Kong Station, plus 30–50 minutes for waiting, getting through the station, and reaching your hotel. Allow at least 60–90 minutes to reach a city hotel by bus, accounting for traffic and multiple stops, and adjust using Citybus live arrivals.
A one-way adult Airport Express fare paid with Octopus is HK$120 to Hong Kong Station, HK$105 to Kowloon Station, and HK$73 to Tsing Yi Station. Smart Ticket fares are HK$130, HK$115, and HK$80, respectively. Compare the bus fare by route, and include the cost of a taxi after the train when weighing the total. Groups of 3–4 may also want to compare a taxi estimate and whether all their luggage will fit.
Check the luggage rack for your bags before getting off the bus, and keep your passport and phone with you. For a late arrival, check whether onward MTR connections will still be running when the last Airport Express train reaches your station. Don’t cut your airport check-in time short because of traffic delays. Watch your step when getting off, and don’t rush down the stairs with your bags.
If plans change
Switch to the Airport Express and add a short taxi ride from your destination station. If you’re already on the bus, continue to your hotel stop rather than getting off on impulse.
Check whether an A21 or A11 stop is closer to your hotel. If late-night service has ended, go to the official airport taxi stand and show the driver your address.
Small tip
Late-night arrivals or flight delays can affect normal service, so check the latest information at the airport.
Final check before departure
- Save your hotel’s address in English and the nearest bus stop.
- Work out the final leg from the Airport Express station to your hotel.
- Check the last service and late-night alternatives for your arrival time, and which way to board for your return trip.
Regular Airport Express trains and Cityflyer buses do not offer advance seat reservations. Check first and last train times, A11 and A21 operating hours, and any temporary stop changes on the day. Don’t assume daytime A-route service runs late at night.
