At a glance
- For a 3-hour half-day, visit the Dvořák Museum indoors and see only the exterior of the Smetana Museum along the river. To visit the interiors of both museums, check their opening days and allow at least 1 extra hour.
- If you have a concert that day, keep the museum visit short and eat near the concert hall beforehand.
- On a day without a concert, walk along the river and see the National Theatre’s exterior, planning around actual opening hours rather than music history alone.
- Check booking terms and concert times on the venue’s official website.

Visit the Dvořák Museum
Take a tram to the National Theatre → Walk along the Vltava River past the exterior of the Smetana Museum
If you booked a concert at Rudolfinum, take a riverside walk in that direction before heading to the venue. If you booked another concert, such as at Municipal House or the National Theatre, plan your final trip and meal around the venue listed on your ticket.
Places and meals
Make Rudolfinum the endpoint of your route only on a day when you have tickets for a performance there. For any other performance, go to the venue listed on your ticket.
Google MapsOn the basic three-hour route, see only the exterior from the riverside. An interior visit is a separate option: check opening days and add at least one hour to your schedule.

Google MapsHow to fit it in
For a traditional orchestral concert, start with Dvořák Hall at Rudolfinum, home of the Czech Philharmonic. If you want to see an Art Nouveau concert hall, Smetana Hall at the Municipal House is a good choice. Choose opera or ballet from the official programs at the National Theatre, Estates Theatre, or State Opera.
Reality check
Take a tram from the Dvořák Museum to the National Theatre, then walk along the river to the Smetana Museum and Rudolfinum. Plan Vyšehrad Cemetery as a separate half-day.
Allow 3 hours for one museum and a riverside walk. Set aside at least 2 hours for a regular evening concert, including intermission. Arrive 30–45 minutes before it starts. On days with presenter-sponsored events, Rudolfinum typically opens 1 hour beforehand.
Concert prices vary by date, seat, and presenting organization. Official prices for Czech Philharmonic regular single concerts in 2025/26 started at 140 CZK and went up to 1,550 CZK. Check the next season and events presented by other organizations separately.
Save your nighttime transit and route back to your accommodation before the concert ends.
If plans change
See the concert hall’s architecture and composer-related exhibits. Check for same-day ticket availability in the evening, but don’t buy tickets from unofficial resellers.
Explore the musical landmarks during the day, then narrow your options to an early performance at a smaller venue that makes it easy to get back to your accommodation.
Small tip
When choosing a concert venue, look at the presenting organization, performers, program, and actual start and end times—in that order—rather than choosing by building alone. Short concerts at churches or the Clementinum can fit easily into a sightseeing day, but concerts with the same title may have different ensembles and performance standards.
Final check before departure
- Choose by concert type: compare orchestral concerts at Rudolfinum and Municipal House, and opera or ballet at the National Theatre, Estates Theatre, and Prague State Opera, using their official schedules.
- Plan a daytime route from the Dvořák Museum to the National Theatre: visit the museum, take a tram to the National Theatre, then follow the river to the Smetana Museum and Rudolfinum.
- If the Smetana Museum is closed, take a riverside walk past its exterior instead. Don’t force in a museum from another area; leave time to eat before a concert at Rudolfinum.
- Check the concert program and seats before booking: confirm the start time, intermission, language and subtitles, late-entry rules, and transport home. Do not pay for a church or Clementinum concert based only on an ad that omits the presenter, performers, or program.
Concert schedules, performers, prices, ticket exchange terms, and venue hours can change. Check the program and seats with the official ticket seller. For church concerts, choose only events that clearly name the official presenter and performers.
