At a glance
- On the west side of the river, one day from the Castle down to Malá Strana gives you a clear route.
- On the east side, check Josefov’s opening hours first, then walk on through the Old Town and New Town.
- On day three, don’t try to visit all three places. Choose Vyšehrad for city walls and quiet river views, Letná for views and a park, or Vinohrady for cafés and a neighborhood walk.
Day by day
Suggested itinerary
See each day's route, highlights, background and stay together in one place.
Plan to start at 09:00, but adjust for actual opening hours and reservation slots. Take tram 22 to Pražský hrad and enter through the Castle’s Second Courtyard. Allow about 3 hours in the morning for one paid interior visit, then walk downhill after lunch through Hradčany, Malá Strana, and Kampa. Plan to finish the walk around 16:00, and check PID for the route back from Malostranská station or stop.
Plan to start at 09:00 from Staroměstská station on Line A, then go to the visitor center at Maiselova 15 before spending the morning sightseeing in Josefov. The Jewish Museum is closed on Saturdays and Jewish holidays, so check its official annual closure calendar and each site’s last admission time first. After lunch, continue through the Old Town to Wenceslas Square and Národní třída. Around 16:00, check routes to your accommodation from Můstek or Národní třída station. Don’t add another major paid attraction.
Choose just one for the morning: Vyšehrad, Letná and Holešovice, or Vinohrady and Žižkov. Save your arrival and return stops for that area in PID, then spend the afternoon relaxing at a café or your accommodation.

Google Maps 상세 글An east-side day combining paid visits and a walk through the squares.
Google Maps 상세 글A third-day option combining fortifications, parks, a cemetery, and river views.
Google Maps 상세 글How to fit it in
For your first three days, cover just one area each: west, east, and one extension area. Splitting the days more finely can leave you spending more time crossing the river than sightseeing.
Reality check
On the west side, the basic route is tram 22 to Pražský hrad, followed by the official 5-minute walk to the Castle’s Second Courtyard. Check the route for your visit date in PID, then walk downhill toward Malá Strana after your Castle visit. On the east side, start at Staroměstská station on Line A and use the official 3-minute walk to the Jewish Museum visitor center at Maiselova 15 as a guide. Check tickets and opening hours before continuing into the Old Town. If construction changes tram access to the Castle, check the official access information and PID replacement service instead of improvising a route up the hill’s stairs.
Allow 3 days for the essentials, or 5 days or more if you’re adding outer neighborhoods and nearby trips. The 09:00–16:00 times above are sample sightseeing hours, not official opening or train times. Allow about 3 hours in the morning for a paid visit to the Castle or Josefov, then use the rest for lunch, travel, and an afternoon walk. Adjust the order to fit your actual reservation slot.
Limit each day to one major paid visit to avoid stacking costs for the Castle, Josefov, and museums.
Keep your belongings secured in crowded squares and on bridges, and slow down on wet cobblestones and tram tracks.
If plans change
Instead of the west-side hill, pair the National Museum in the New Town with indoor passages in one area. Walk by the river for just 30 minutes after the rain eases.
Skip Vyšehrad or an outer neighborhood, and connect just the two areas of the Castle and Malá Strana, and the Old Town and Josefov, by tram and metro.
Small tip
Even if your accommodation or the weather changes, keep to one area per day and rearrange the stops within it as needed.
Final check before departure
- Save the first transfer from your accommodation to each area.
- Check actual opening hours for the Castle, Josefov, and museums, then schedule visits on different days. The Jewish Museum closes every Saturday and on Jewish holidays; check the official closure calendar for your year of travel and each site’s last admission time.
- Decide in advance which area to skip on a rainy day or when walking feels difficult.
If construction, events, or weather affect your plans, find a substitute in the same area rather than traveling elsewhere.
