At a glance
- Walk north from the entrance near Jordan Road, following the stalls. Browse souvenirs, choose one snack, then head toward Yau Ma Tei Station around Public Square Street to finish the evening moving in one direction.
- Planning a visit from 18:00 to 20:00 can make it easy to combine dinner with the market, but that timing is an editorial suggestion. Stall and restaurant hours vary, and some may close because of rain or events.
- Don’t assume electronics or branded goods are genuine, high quality, or covered by a warranty just because they’re inexpensive. Check the item’s condition and the total price before buying. If you try fortune-telling, ask the price and what languages are available first, and don’t base travel decisions on the result.

How to fit it in
Have dinner around Jordan, then enter the market where Jordan Road meets Temple Street. Browse the stalls for 30–40 minutes, spend 20 minutes on snacks, and return north to Yau Ma Tei Station.
Reality check
From MTR Jordan Station, map the market entrance at Temple Street and Jordan Road. If you walk north, return via Yau Ma Tei Station. Also save the route back to Jordan Station depending on your accommodation’s location. Don’t confuse the night market entrance with the name of the temple.
Allow about 2 hours in total: 45–60 minutes for dinner and 60–90 minutes for the market walk and snacks. If you plan to shop longer, set a time to wrap up within 90 minutes and leave time for the last MTR connection.
Market entry is free, and you don’t need to book a regular walk. As planning estimates, budget HK$30–60 for a snack and HK$50–100 for a small souvenir. Check serving size, weight, and add-on charges for food, and confirm whether a stall accepts cards before buying. Bring small bills.
Keep your phone and wallet in front of you among the crowded stalls. Choose food that has been cooked thoroughly and find a place to wash your hands. If you have allergies, ask whether sauces or frying oil are shared and avoid snacks if the answer is unclear. Use well-lit main streets to get back to your accommodation at night, and avoid shortcuts through quiet lanes.
If plans change
Don’t stay long at the market. Switch to an indoor restaurant or dessert shop in Jordan. If there’s a severe weather alert, finish with a meal near your accommodation.
Browse for just 20–30 minutes near the entrance, then move to one dessert shop. Don’t make a long night market visit a must-do part of an evening with other bookings.
Small tip
A shared snack after dinner makes it easier to browse the market. If you choose a dish like clay pot rice that’s closer to a full meal, allow extra time and budget. Instead of buying the same food at multiple stalls, compare prices and ingredients and choose one.
Final check before departure
- Save the Jordan Road entrance and the route back to Yau Ma Tei Station.
- Check the hours and closing days of dinner and dessert spots.
- Prepare small bills, a spending limit, and a list of ingredients you need to avoid.
The Hong Kong Tourism Board describes the night market as coming to life around sunset. Check the closing days of any restaurant you plan to visit and whether individual stalls are operating. Don’t assume you can still access photo spots shown in old pictures.
