At a glance
- The Peak Tram leaves from the lower terminus on Garden Road. Factor in the uphill walk from Central Station to the terminus as well as the boarding queue, and read the ticket terms to see whether your booking guarantees immediate boarding without a wait.
- If you want to visit Sky Terrace 428, check whether admission is included with your tram ticket. You can also enjoy the views from nearby and stop at Peak Galleria without visiting the terrace, so you don’t have to buy the most expensive combination ticket.
- If you wait until dark for the night views, you may hit the return queue at the same time as everyone else. Aim to arrive an hour before sunset, and save the return bus 15 route too. Make the Lugard Road walk shorter or skip it depending on darkness, rain, and your energy.
Day by day
Suggested itinerary
See each day's route, highlights, background and stay together in one place.
Lower terminus or bus 15 → the Peak → nearby walk while it’s light
If visibility is good, visit the viewpoint → enjoy the night views or have a quick meal
Compare the tram queue with bus 15 → Central or Admiralty → your hotel
How to fit it in
Check visibility that day, then go up in the afternoon by Peak Tram or bus 15. Walk nearby while it’s still light, take in the views and have a meal, then check the return queues and head back downtown before it gets too late.
Reality check
Board the tram at the Central Terminus on Garden Road. Peak Explorer bus 15 connects Central, Admiralty, and Wan Chai with the Peak; find stop locations on Citybus. You can take different transport up and down, but compare the cost of a return ticket first.
Allow 30–60 minutes to reach the lower terminus and wait to board, 60–90 minutes for views and a short walk on the Peak, and 45–60 minutes for the return queue and journey, for a total of 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes. It can take longer around sunset on weekends.
One-way and return tram tickets, Sky Terrace admission, and combination tickets are sold separately. Fares were adjusted in 2026, so check the total on the official booking page instead of relying on old price lists. Setting aside around HK$200 for an adult tram and Sky Terrace ticket is a planning estimate; meals cost extra. Even a free walk nearby still requires round-trip transport.
Take your time on steep stairs and wet trails. Lighting and path width vary along Lugard Road, so don’t push yourself to do a long loop at night. In strong winds or thunderstorms, spend less time at outdoor viewpoints and on trails, and check transport service updates.
If plans change
Check whether your ticket can be changed to another date, and switch to night views along the Tsim Sha Tsui or Central waterfront. If you’re already up there, take a break indoors and skip the long outdoor walk.
Compare bus 15’s arrival time and road conditions. If you already bought a return ticket, factor in the cost you’d lose; if you’re tired, take the bus down and call it a day.
Small tip
If you’d rather not wait long for the return tram, save the stop for bus 15 and check its next arrival before heading up. Don’t extend your walk onto dark trails just because it’s crowded; stick to a short viewpoint walk while it’s light.
Final check before departure
- Check visibility, wind conditions, and maintenance notices for the Peak.
- Check whether your tram ticket includes Sky Terrace admission and whether the date can be changed.
- Save directions to the lower terminus, the return stop for bus 15, and the last bus time.
Official operating hours are 07:30–23:00 daily for the Peak Tram and 08:30–22:00 for Sky Terrace 428. Their closing times differ, and hours may change for events or maintenance. Leave time for the return queue instead of waiting until just before the last tram.
