At a glance
- Enter Nan Lian Garden from Diamond Hill Station, spend about 90 minutes visiting the nunnery and garden, then sit down for lunch. Chi Lin Nunnery is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Nan Lian Garden is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Even though the garden stays open later, the nunnery and restaurant do not share the same hours.
- The restaurant lists weekday lunch from 12–3 p.m. and dinner from 6–9 p.m. On weekends and public holidays, hours are lunch from 12–3:30 p.m., tea from 3:30–5:30 p.m., and dinner from 6–9 p.m. Aim for an early seating rather than arriving in the final 30 minutes. Ask the restaurant separately about last orders.
- For reservations or questions, call +852 3658 9388. Tell them your date, party size, and whether you want lunch or dinner, then ask whether à la carte dishes or set menus are available. Don’t assume that a vegetarian label means a dish is free of eggs, dairy, nuts, or wheat. Be specific about any allergies or vegan requirements.

Diamond Hill Station → Chi Lin Nunnery → Nan Lian Garden → vegetarian meal
How to fit it in
If you plan to have lunch before or after your garden visit, first check availability through Chi Lin Nunnery’s official reservation link or by phone. If you can’t reserve, don’t commit to a long wait on site; eat in Diamond Hill after visiting the garden.
Reality check
Visit Nan Lian Garden and Chi Lin Nunnery together from Diamond Hill Station, then head to the restaurant without making a separate round trip.
Allow 90 minutes for the garden and nunnery, plus 60–90 minutes for the meal.
Budget separately for the garden visit and restaurant spending. The restaurant’s official hours don’t list current meal prices, so ask when booking about the set-menu price per person, tea, and service charge. For example, if you set a HK$400 limit for a meal for two, choose dishes that keep the total, including drinks, within that amount. This is a sample budget, not the restaurant’s pricing.
Even at a vegetarian restaurant, check ingredients before ordering if you have a nut, mushroom, or gluten allergy.
If plans change
After visiting the garden, switch to a meal at a Diamond Hill shopping mall.
Shorten the outdoor garden visit and keep the meal and nearby indoor stops.
Small tip
This restaurant is a place to enjoy the quiet atmosphere rather than focus on photos, so leave plenty of time between activities.
Final check before departure
- Check availability and closing days through Chi Lin Nunnery’s official online reservation channel or by phone at +852 3658 9388
- Prepare wording to explain any allergies
- Save the locations of the garden and restaurant entrances
On October 3, 2026, Chi Lin’s official contact page was checked for opening hours and the reservation phone number. The nunnery closes during Typhoon Signal No. 3 or higher, or a Black Rainstorm Warning. Nan Lian Garden closes during Typhoon Signal No. 8 or higher. If a warning is in effect, don’t travel outdoors just to keep a restaurant reservation.
