At a glance
- Day 1: Get your bearings with the harbor and night views. If you arrive late, have dinner near your hotel and rest.
- Day 2: Group Central, Tai Kwun, and Sheung Wan into one Hong Kong Island day. Go up to the Peak only if visibility is good.
- Day 3: Spend the day at Ngong Ping and the Big Buddha on Lantau, or at Disneyland. Don’t book both for the same day.
- Day 4: If you have a late flight, choose M+ or a walk along the West Kowloon waterfront. Set your luggage pickup time and target airport arrival time first; skip sightseeing if your flight leaves early.
Day by day
Suggested itinerary
See each day's route, highlights, background and stay together in one place.
Hotel → nearby harbor walk or Star Ferry → Tsim Sha Tsui night views → hotel
Central → Tai Kwun → Sheung Wan and Man Mo Temple → the Peak only if visibility is good → hotel
Spend the day at Ngong Ping and the Big Buddha on Lantau, or at Disneyland → hotel
If your Day 4 flight is scheduled to depart late in the day, choose either a visit to M+ or a walk along the West Kowloon waterfront. First allow enough time to collect your luggage and get to the airport. For a morning flight, go straight to the airport from your accommodation.
How to fit it in
A 3-night, 4-day trip works best when you stick to the principle of “one area per day.”
Reality check
Keep full-day itineraries for Hong Kong Island and Lantau separate. You may need to cross the harbor depending on where you stay, so don’t insist on limiting crossings to one. On departure day, save the route from your actual luggage storage location to the airport first.
Plan for 8 hours on full sightseeing days and 3–4 hours of activities on arrival and departure days.
Commit to one major ticketed attraction on Lantau or at a theme park, and mix in free harbor and neighborhood activities.
Avoid typhoons, heavy rain, overly packed evenings, and trips to outlying areas on the last day.
If plans change
Explore Central indoors and visit the Peak on another clear evening only if you have time.
If it’s a routine facility inspection, switch to an exhibition in the city, such as M+, if open. If it’s due to a typhoon or heavy rain warning, don’t switch to another outlying area; follow official travel guidance.
Small tip
Lantau and Disneyland are on the same island, but offer different kinds of trips. It’s better not to combine them in one day.
Final check before departure
- Finalize the areas for each day and choose one major ticketed attraction
- Save two weather backup plans
- Work backward from your target airport arrival time
Check Peak and Lantau services, as well as airport transport on your departure date. M+ is generally closed on Mondays; check its official visitor information for public holiday exceptions and exhibition entry requirements.
