At a glance

  • First, ask your child to name three things they most want to do in a day. Choose Disneyland if meeting characters, Frozen, or shows in front of the castle are priorities. Choose Ocean Park if real animals, aquariums, or thrill rides matter more. A child’s favorite attractions and ride height limits are more useful than an age rule for deciding which park is best. If you visit both, set aside a separate day for each.
  • For Disneyland, transfer at Sunny Bay to the Disneyland Resort Line. For Ocean Park, take the South Island Line from Admiralty. If you’re staying on Lantau, getting back from Disneyland may be quicker; if you’re staying on Hong Kong Island, Ocean Park may be more convenient. Compare the actual routes from your hotel. Being near the airport doesn’t mean you can enjoy Disneyland from opening time on your arrival day.
  • Compare ticket prices for the same date and age group. Disneyland’s official 1-day regular ticket list prices are HK$669, HK$759, HK$849, and HK$939, depending on the date tier; children and seniors have separate prices. Ocean Park’s regular ticket costs HK$538 for ages 12 and up and HK$269 for ages 3–11. Check eligibility requirements for discounted tickets, such as residency, occupation, or purchase date. Choose based on the family’s total cost, including meals, souvenirs, and priority access, not just the cheaper ticket.

Decision

Characters and parades: Disneyland / a mix of animals and rides: Ocean Park → Choose one park for a full day

Choose the park that fits your family

Check reservations and same-day attraction availability

For Disneyland, confirm both your valid ticket and your park reservation status. For Ocean Park, check the ticket’s terms of use and the opening calendar, and note the current notice that North Pole Encounter is closed for renovation. Ocean Park’s app has a discontinuation notice effective July 2026, so use the official website and on-site maps. The Disneyland app can help you check attraction wait times, shows, and reservations. A priority access pass is a separate product from admission.

When to call it a day while your child still has energy

Plan separately for days when you’ll stay from opening through the nighttime show and days when you’ll head back in the afternoon. Don’t compare parks only by the number of attractions without accounting for naps, meals, and shade breaks. If height limits rule out many rides, focus on indoor shows or animals; check current operations for indoor attractions during thunderstorms or high winds too. If your child is worn out, don’t stay until closing just because you’ve already paid for the ticket. Prepare a meeting spot and caregiver contact card in case you get separated, and keep the next morning light.

How to fit it in

Plan to enter a theme park right after opening, and decide in advance whether you’ll stay until evening or leave in the afternoon.

Reality check

Transport

Disneyland requires a transfer at Sunny Bay; Ocean Park is directly connected to the MTR. Choose one based on your hotel and your child’s stamina.

Time

Set aside 8–12 hours for either park and keep the next morning light.

Cost

Compare the total cost for each park, including admission, meals, priority access, souvenirs, and lockers.

Safety

Plan for ride height limits, sensory overload, extreme heat, thunderstorms, and getting separated.

If plans change

For a Family Trip, Choose Between Disneyland and Ocean Park: If your child gets tired

Skip the nighttime show and head back in the afternoon.

For a Family Trip, Choose Between Disneyland and Ocean Park: If your chosen park is closed

Switch to a family-friendly harbor or museum itinerary instead of buying same-day tickets for the other park.

Small tip

Check the official app or website for the rain forecast, closures, show times, and wait times for popular attractions.

Final check before departure

  • Check ride height limits, shows, and attraction maintenance
  • Set the family budget and decide when to leave
  • Prepare a meeting spot and a child’s emergency contact card

Check the selected park’s opening calendar, attraction maintenance, and entry requirements on its official page.
