At a glance

  • From the pier, head straight into the lanes and first check whether small restaurants are open and when the return ferries leave. That way you will not have to worry about the boat time at the far end of the island.
  • If it is cool and visibility is good, add the short climb up Finger Hill. If it feels hot, skip the hill and stick to the seaside benches and village lanes.
  • Even on a weekday when shops are closed, the narrow streets with passing bicycles and lived-in lanes with residents’ laundry and plants are part of the scene. Do not cross the island repeatedly looking for open shops.

Day by day

Suggested itinerary

See each day's route, highlights, background and stay together in one place.

Getting There

West side of Central Pier 6 → HKKF ferry to Peng Chau → Lo Peng Street pier

Island Walk

Pier → village lanes on Wing On Street → coastal walk → meal in the village. Skip the hill if the heat or rain is heavy.

Return

Aim to return to the same pier one sailing before your booked or confirmed return ferry, and check the boarding area for Central.

How to fit it in

Arrive in the late morning, check whether lunch is available in the lanes by the pier, and walk along the coast first. Add Finger Hill only if the weather allows, then return to the pier 30 minutes before your target ferry.

Reality check

Transport

Board the HKKF ferry to Peng Chau from the west side of Central Pier 6. Official transport guidance lists the crossing at about 25–30 minutes, arriving at the Lo Peng Street pier in Peng Chau. Check the schedule for the vessel type and service day, choose your return sailing first, and aim to be back at the pier one sailing earlier.

Time

Allow 4 hours for the round-trip ferry, pier-side lanes, and coastal walk; add 60 minutes for Finger Hill. Do not enter a new lane within 30 minutes of your target return sailing.

Cost

Set your budget for the round-trip ferry, a simple meal, and a drink. With few shops to choose from, do not take extra transport or pay for an expensive alternative meal to find a particular café; eat the snack you brought instead.

Safety

Respect the heat, rain, slippery coastal paths, and privacy in quiet residential lanes.

If plans change

Peng Chau Is for a Quiet Half-Day, Not a Long List of Attractions: If Shops Are Closed

Bring a snack and stick to a walk through the village and along the coast.

Take the next available ferry back.

Small tip

If you want food options and buzz like Cheung Chau, choose a different island. On Peng Chau, it is not a failed trip if three or more shops are closed; if you can spend 30 minutes on a quiet shore, you have achieved the purpose of this itinerary.

Final check before departure

  • Save multiple return ferry options
  • Bring water and a simple snack
  • Check etiquette for photographing homes and keeping noise down

Ferry service and small shop hours may vary by day of the week, public holiday, and weather.
