At a glance
- Schnitzel is thinly pounded meat coated in breadcrumbs and fried. Figlmüller Wollzeile’s Original is pork, whereas Wiener Schnitzel is made with veal. If you order a large main with salad, don’t automatically add another meat main to the same meal. Ask the staff about portion size and whether sharing is allowed.
- Tafelspitz is beef cooked in clear broth with root vegetables. At Plachutta, the suggested order is to serve the broth first, eat the marrow with bread, then have the beef with potatoes and sauces. Don’t order the broth and beef as two separate required mains; check what’s included in your meal.
- A Heuriger is a traditional wine tavern where you can have wine from local producers and a light meal. Don’t automatically plan on having another meat main there. Check the cold dishes and salads on the menu, and the wine glass size, to suit your appetite. Opening days and food service vary by venue.
- To avoid overlapping big meals and reservations, have breakfast at Naschmarkt or a café, choose either schnitzel or Tafelspitz for lunch, and keep dinner light near your route that day. On performance days, eat earlier; don’t assume the kitchen will be open after the show.
Day by day
Suggested itinerary
See each day's route, highlights, background and stay together in one place.
Choose either Naschmarkt or a café. Check the venue’s official channels for opening hours and when the kitchen starts serving on your visit date.
Reserve either schnitzel or Tafelspitz, not both. Check the menu, allergy information, and kitchen closing time before ordering.
Choose a place confirmed open along your sightseeing route that day. If you have a performance, don’t plan to eat after it ends.

Google MapsHow to fit it in
A good fit if you’ve saved lots of restaurants but want to work them into your actual itinerary.
Reality check
Choose a restaurant along your route to a palace or museum that day instead of crossing the city for one meal. On days when you visit places farther apart, such as Schönbrunn and Belvedere, use the subway or tram and walk; choose somewhere close to your sightseeing stop for your meal.
Check reservation times and walk-in wait times for candidate restaurants. If you have another booking, set a cutoff time for when to change your meal plan.
As of October 4, 2026, Figlmüller Wollzeile’s official menu lists its signature pork schnitzel at €21.90. Drinks, salad, and dessert cost extra. Don’t use this one dish as the average cost of all meals in Vienna; check the menu and sharing or minimum-order terms at the location you book. For Plachutta, check which beef cut, broth, and sides are included, then compare the total cost of a meal at each restaurant.
Save your allergy and dietary restriction details in German and English, then confirm them directly with staff before ordering.
If plans change
If your first choice is full, switch to another real restaurant whose official menu and opening hours you’ve checked. Don’t go to an unverified restaurant just because it serves the same dish.
If rich food feels like too much, choose soup, bread, or a small dessert instead.
Small tip
Don’t rely on old reviews for current opening hours or reservation rules. Check the restaurant’s official website, call, and compare with recent map information.
Final check before departure
- Choose one dish you want per meal, and check the candidate restaurant’s official opening and reservation terms.
- Save your allergy and dietary restriction details in German and English.
- On performance days, plan an earlier meal or a light alternative based on the start and end times.
For restaurant recommendations, current official opening hours, reservation terms, and menus take priority. Treat prices as a guide, not a fixed budget, and check the listed prices plus service and drink terms before deciding.
