At a glance

  • Visit inside the Buda Castle District only if you arrive early on day one. If you arrive late, limit your visit to the exterior and an evening walk.
  • On day two, choose either Parliament or the baths; don’t book both. For the baths, check whether you need swimwear, a towel, and slippers, and whether your ticket includes a locker or cabin.
  • See the Danube at night by the second evening, and check the BKK route for a ride back to your accommodation. Don’t add another nighttime activity before departing on day three.

Day by day

Suggested itinerary

See each day's route, highlights, background and stay together in one place.

Day 1 · Buda Hill and the First Night

After you arrive, see Buda Castle District and the exterior of Fisherman’s Bastion. If you’re short on time, skip the interior visits, drop your bags at your accommodation, and see the night views from a nearby stretch of the riverfront.

Day 2 · Parliament or the Baths

If you have an official Parliament ticket, tour the interior and see the Pest riverfront. If the baths are your priority, see Parliament from outside and set aside half a day for Széchenyi. After an evening walk along the Danube, return to your accommodation for the second night.

Day 3 · The Market or a Short Walk, Then Departure

Make a brief stop at the Central Market Hall if it’s open on your visit date, then pick up your bags and head to the airport or your next city. First subtract the time you need for transit and check-in from your departure time, and walk around only if time remains. Don’t plan the baths or night views.

Reality check

Transport

For Buda Castle District, check the BKK route for bus 16 from Deák Ferenc tér toward Dísz tér. Check for construction and detour notices; allow 25–35 minutes including boarding waits, then 10–15 minutes to walk from the stop to Fisherman’s Bastion. Széchenyi Thermal Bath is accessible from the Széchenyi fürdő station on metro line M1. For Pest riverfront night views, choose the section of tram 2 between Kossuth Lajos tér and Fővám tér. Check the actual stops and last tram in BudapestGO, and allow 30–45 minutes for the ride and photos. These are planning estimates that include waiting time; don’t assume the same ticket will cover a transfer.

Time

If you arrive early on day one, spend 2–3 hours seeing the Castle District from outside and walking around; if you arrive late, stick to a nearby stretch of the riverfront. If you choose Széchenyi on day two, allow a four-hour block: one hour for round-trip transport from your accommodation, plus three hours for entry, changing, bathing, and showering. If you choose Parliament, follow the meeting and tour times on your ticket, allow extra time for security, and skip the baths. Plan to finish your night views in about an hour on the first or second evening. Don’t schedule paid reservations on day three.

Cost

According to Széchenyi’s official 2026 price list, checked on 2026-10-03, a day ticket with a locker costs 13,200 HUF Monday through Thursday, 14,800 HUF Friday through Sunday, and 15,800 HUF on designated public holidays and during peak season. Online Fast Track is a different product, so don’t assume it costs the same. For your travel date, recheck the date, entrance, and locker conditions under Official Prices → Online Tickets. If you choose the baths, budget for the listed ticket price, bringing or buying a towel and slippers, round-trip BKK transit, and meals. Add Parliament and a cruise only if you actually choose them. Compare single tickets with 24-hour passes based on the number of rides you’ll take using BKK Tickets and Passes.

Safety

After seeing the night views, avoid a long walk along dark stretches of the riverfront. Keep your belongings together in one hand when taking photos on bridges.

If plans change

If Parliament tickets are sold out

If you haven’t booked the baths either, check the exhibitions and opening hours at the Hungarian National Museum for your visit date. If you’ve already chosen Széchenyi, keep day two focused on that plan.

If your cruise is canceled

Take a short ride on tram 2 along the Pest riverfront if it’s running, then transfer to a service toward your accommodation. In strong winds or heavy rain, skip the night views altogether and have dinner indoors near your accommodation.

Small tip

Before heading back after the night views, check transit to your accommodation to avoid a late walk along the riverfront.

Final check before departure

  • Check entry and departure details for Buda Hill.
  • Save the reservations and travel time you’ll need for the Pest market and Parliament.
  • Check the last transit connections back to your accommodation after the baths and Danube night views.
  • Since August 1, 2025, Széchenyi has not allowed general admission to children under 14, including to the outdoor pools. If you’re traveling with anyone under 14, leave this bath out of your default plan. Towel and slipper rentals are not available with general admission, so bring your own or buy them there. Check the date, entrance, and locker conditions when buying bath tickets through the official seller.

Check official booking requirements and opening hours for Parliament and the thermal baths. Plan night views for just the first or second evening, and leave time on day three to pick up your bags and travel to the airport or your next city.
