At a glance
- Follow this route around town to avoid backtracking: Lucerne station, Chapel Bridge and the Old Town, Musegg Wall, the Lion Monument, then the pier.
- As of 2026, the Männliturm, Zytturm, Wachturm, and Schirmerturm towers on Musegg Wall are open to visitors from April 1 to November 1, 08:00–19:00. Outside this period, take a walk outside the wall instead.
- The regular boat from Lucerne to Weggis is 50% off with Eurail and Interrail, and free with a Swiss Travel Pass. Do not describe the two passes as offering the same benefit.
- A day when you only use the Eurail Flexi Pass discount does not count as a travel day. However, if you take a train covered by Eurail on the same day, you need to activate a travel day for that train journey.

Reality check
The regular boat from Luzern Bahnhofquai to Weggis is 50% off with Eurail and Interrail. You can buy a discounted ticket at the pier or on board. The Swiss Travel Pass covers the regular boat service.
Allow 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours for the main city walk, and 3–4 hours for the round-trip boat ride between Lucerne and Weggis plus a lakeside walk. If you add Rigi Kaltbad, plan for a full mountain day.
With Eurail, you pay half the regular fare for the boat; the Swiss Travel Pass covers the regular boat service. A Eurail Flexi Pass used only for the discount does not count as a travel day. Check the exact boat fare for your travel date and ticket class.
It is cooler and windier on the mountain than in the city, so bring a light jacket even in summer.
If plans change
Walk outside the wall and spend more time at the Lion Monument or the Swiss Museum of Transport.
Skip Weggis and take a shorter round trip on Lake Lucerne or go for a lakeside walk. Do not choose a connection that risks missing the last boat.
Small tip
Adding the cable car from Weggis to Rigi Kaltbad turns this into a mountain day rather than a half-day outing. If you spend 2–3 hours in Lucerne, a more relaxed option is to walk along the Weggis lakeshore and return.
Final check before departure
- Check whether Musegg Wall is open for the season.
- Save the round-trip boat schedule between Luzern Bahnhofquai and Weggis, including the last return boat.
- Check which boat services are covered by your pass, and distinguish Eurail from the Swiss Travel Pass.
- If you add Rigi Kaltbad, check the cable car and your return connection separately.
Musegg Wall is open from April 1 to November 1, 2026, from 08:00 to 19:00. Lake Lucerne boat schedules and connections to Weggis and Mount Rigi vary by season, so check the round-trip options again on the day you travel.
