At a glance
- On day one, drop off your bags, have a bowl of noodles in Jordan, then walk around Temple Street after dark. If you arrive late in the afternoon, skip the daytime markets. If you choose clay pot rice for dinner, skip the noodle meal and allow a separate 60–90 minutes for ordering and cooking.
- On day two, start at Sham Shui Po Station and explore the Pei Ho Street Market and Apliu Street. Have one snack, either Kung Wo Beancurd or Hop Yik Tai cheung fun. Have lunch at a noodle shop in the same neighborhood. For dinner, choose Oi Man Sang’s shared dishes if you’re with a group. If you’re dining alone, a rice or noodle meal indoors is easier to size. Add Mong Kok shopping only if you still have the energy.
- On day three, take the MTR to Central and choose one meal from a cha chaan teng, wonton noodles, or roast goose. Don’t queue at two places back to back just to compare them. Factor in the trip back to wherever you left your bags after checkout, and plan to finish your meal based on the airport arrival time recommended by your airline.
- To keep one restaurant’s closure from derailing the whole day, make just one place your fixed destination each day. Save a backup nearby where you can get the same meal. Check menu prices, drinks, and service charges before ordering. If you have a dinner reservation, keep the earlier snack small so you’re still hungry.
Day by day
Suggested itinerary
See each day's route, highlights, background and stay together in one place.
Leave your bags at your hotel → one meal of noodles or clay pot rice, 60–90 minutes → evening walk along Temple Street, 60 minutes → Jordan Station or your hotel. Skip the daytime markets if you arrive late.
Breakfast, 45 minutes → Sham Shui Po Market and Apliu Street, 2 hours → noodle lunch → tofu or cheung fun snack, 30 minutes → rest → shared dishes for dinner, 90 minutes. Mong Kok is optional.
One meal in Central, 60 minutes, only if you have a late departure → pick up your bags → airport. If a restaurant queue is longer than 20 minutes, switch to a meal near your hotel. Skip sightseeing if you have an early departure.
How to fit it in
Markets and restaurants may both be busier on weekends and public holidays. The times in this itinerary are planning estimates; actual travel and wait times will vary. Try lunch around 11 a.m. or an early dinner to avoid peak meal times, but check opening hours first.
Reality check
Spend the first day in Jordan, the daytime portion of the second day in Sham Shui Po, and go to Central on the last day only if your departure time allows. Use an MTR route search based on your accommodation’s location to work out how much time to allow for travel to the airport.
Allow 60 minutes for a meal, 30 minutes for a snack, and 30 minutes to queue at a popular restaurant.
For example, if you set a food budget of HK$250 per person per day, you could allocate 60 for breakfast, 80 for lunch, 80 for dinner, and 30 for snacks. These are planning estimates, not restaurant prices. If you order market-priced items such as crab, cut back on other food costs that day. Budget separately for the MTR and airport transfers.
Be mindful of overeating, food allergies, hot dishes, and your belongings at night markets.
If plans change
If Kung Wo is closed, switch to market snacks around Pei Ho Street. If the Central shops are closed, eat near your accommodation before departure.
Skip the next snack and stick to a market stroll and tea.
Small tip
Choose just one famous restaurant each day, and have backup options ready in the same neighborhood for the rest.
Final check before departure
- Save one restaurant and a backup for each day
- Identify any food allergies and set a food budget
- Work backward from your airport departure time on the last day
On October 3, 2026, we checked the Tourism Board’s information on Temple Street food and Sham Shui Po restaurants. Opening hours may vary from stall to stall. Check dinner reservations and closures for day two, as well as airport transportation on your last day, then rearrange the days if needed.
