At a glance
- Ocean Park is divided into the Waterfront near the entrance and the Summit on the hill. Families prioritizing the aquarium, pandas, and attractions for younger children can spend longer at the Waterfront; if you’re after thrill rides and sea views, head to the Summit earlier. Instead of trying to see every animal exhibit and ride, pick your three must-sees first.
- The two areas are connected by a cable car and the Ocean Express. The Ocean Express ride itself takes about 4 minutes according to official information, but queues and walks to the stations take extra time. Group attractions in the same area and make one transfer to avoid going back and forth between areas. Even if the cable car views are a priority, follow staff directions and use another available transport option if service stops because of strong winds or maintenance.
- The current official standard admission price is HK$538 for adults ages 12 and up and HK$269 for children ages 3–11. Tickets alone for two adults and one child in that age range cost HK$1,345; transport, meals, lockers, and other expenses are extra. Date-specific discounts and special offers may include different attractions from the standard ticket, so don’t choose based on price alone. If you want to visit Water World, check its separate admission offers and calendar.
Day by day
Suggested itinerary
See each day's route, highlights, background and stay together in one place.
Ocean Park station → Waterfront pandas and Grand Aquarium, or take Ocean Express to prioritize Summit rides → one or two attractions in the other area → return to the main entrance and MTR
How to choose between the two areas and tickets
Take the MTR South Island Line to Ocean Park Station and follow signs to the main entrance. Check the opening calendar for the day and save the admission QR code from your ticket booking, along with the ticket’s terms of use. Plan for 7–9 hours, with key attractions in the morning, lunch and an indoor break, then the remaining area in the afternoon. Adding Stanley and Repulse Bay leaves less time at the park, so dinner in central Hong Kong or near your hotel is easier.
According to official information, North Pole Encounter is closed for renovation, with reopening of the new attraction planned for Q1 2027. Don’t assume you can see the walrus exhibit mentioned in older reviews. Height, age, and health restrictions vary by ride, so check your child’s height and follow the rules. Don’t assume indoor attractions will always stay open during thunderstorms or strong winds; check on-site service updates. A notice announces the discontinuation of the Ocean Park mobile app effective July 1, 2026, so use official website information and the on-site map.
How to fit it in
From Ocean Park station on the South Island Line, go straight to the entrance. After entering, check the official daily schedule and ride wait times, then visit two must-see attractions in either the Waterfront or Summit area first.
Reality check
From Ocean Park station on the MTR South Island Line, go straight to the main entrance. Travel between the Waterfront and Summit by Ocean Express or cable car, then return to the same station before closing.
Allow 6–8 hours in the park, including travel between areas, queues, and meals. If you're visiting only two or three attractions, you can shorten the visit to half a day, but check the day's opening and closing times first.
Standard tickets cost HK$538 for adults (ages 12 and up) and HK$269 for children (ages 3–11). Check separately for meals, lockers, add-on experiences, and priority access.
Follow updates about outdoor attraction closures and cable car service changes during high temperatures, thunderstorms, or strong winds.
If plans change
Check Summit transport and the operating status of your chosen attractions first. If only the cable car is stopped, travel by Ocean Express. If outdoor rides are stopped, focus on the Grand Aquarium and panda exhibits in the Waterfront area.
Cancel the park visit. If the weather is good, choose Repulse Bay or Stanley; if it's raining, choose one indoor destination such as M+. Check that the alternative is open that day.
Small tip
Stanley and Repulse Bay are also in the south, but don't try to combine them with the park in one day. North Pole Encounter is currently closed for renovation, so check before buying a ticket if that facility is your reason for visiting.
Final check before departure
- Check the visit date's opening calendar, closed attractions, and cable car and Ocean Express service
- Choose two top priorities based on your group's interests: pandas and aquarium, or Summit rides
- Save your official admission ticket and return MTR route
Check the opening calendar and attraction maintenance schedule for your visit date. North Pole Encounter is closed for renovation, and a notice announces the discontinuation of the existing mobile app effective July 1, 2026.
