At a glance
- Kutná Hora station is separate from the historic center, so leave time for local transport after you arrive.
- If you plan to visit both St. Barbara’s Church and the Sedlec Ossuary, start early and keep lunch simple.
- If you choose just one, pick the St. Barbara’s area for Gothic architecture and a walk through town, or Sedlec for the ossuary.
- If you’re pressed for time before your return train, skip one museum and take a slower walk around the church.
- Check the operator’s official online ticket sales or the visitor center at Zámecká 279 for Sedlec tickets. Secure a dated and timed ticket for the ossuary first, then work out local transport around that time. Don’t look for the ossuary ticket office in the church building or assume you’re guaranteed entry on the day.

Google MapsHow to fit it in
This trip suits travelers who want to spend a day exploring medieval town history and religious spaces outside Prague.
Reality check
First look up round-trip train services between Praha hlavní nádraží and Kutná Hora hl.n. If you start with the Old Town, find regional train S28 to Kutná Hora město at hl.n., transfer there, then walk to St. Barbara’s Church. If you start at Sedlec, choose either the 801 connection from hlavní nádraží to Sedlec, kostnice shown on the official city map, or get off at Kutná Hora-Sedlec on S28. To travel from the Old Town or St. Barbara’s Church to Sedlec, look up city bus 801 from an Old Town stop to Kutná Hora,Sedlec, kostnice. To return from the ossuary to Kutná Hora hl.n. station, check bus 801 in the opposite direction or an S28 connection that runs on your date. Allow around 30 minutes of extra time for walking and waiting on each leg, and save your boarding and exit points using the actual timetable and engineering notices. Do not assume that your train ticket to hl.n. includes local travel.
Allow 9–11 hours for a long day, including round-trip and local transport.
Check rail tickets and admission to each church and the ossuary separately, and see whether a combined ticket is available.
Follow photography restrictions and silence signs in places of worship and remembrance.
If plans change
Focus your time on St. Barbara’s Church and the historic center. Even if you have a little time left to go to Sedlec, visit the inside of the ossuary only if you have a timed ticket for that time. If you do not have a ticket, just walk around the outside or head straight to the return station.
Cancel the trip from Prague and visit Vyšehrad’s church and cemetery along with the Gothic architecture of the old town to keep the religious architecture theme.
Small tip
Spend more time on the mining town’s history and St. Barbara’s Church than on the ossuary.
Final check before departure
- Treat St. Barbara’s and Sedlec as separate areas: after arriving at Kutná Hora hl.n., allow time to travel between them and to the station for your return.
- Set the order around your reservation: check visitor hours and ticket conditions for St. Barbara’s Church and the Sedlec Ossuary on your visit date. If the ossuary time comes first, start in Sedlec; otherwise, follow the itinerary and start in the old town.
- Aim for a return train earlier than the last one: check platforms and transfers again with ČD on the day of travel. If you fall behind at one stop, shorten museum or lunch time.
- Budget for admission to both areas and local transport. Check whether a combined ticket is available and what payment methods the official seller accepts; don’t assume cash is the only option without confirmation.
If it’s hard to get an ossuary reservation, it may be better to spend more time at St. Barbara’s Church and in the old town.
