At a glance
- The Seoul Museum of Photography is about a three-minute walk from Exit 1 of Changdong Station. Its camera-aperture-inspired exterior, tall lobby, and fourth-floor Photo Library together show how the museum presents and researches photography.
- SeMA Seo-Seoul Museum of Art connects to Geumnarae Central Park. Follow the route from its rippling silver exterior to the glass reflecting the park, the rooftop garden, and the flexible underground galleries to see how a park walk meets new media exhibitions.
- Kim Tschang-Yeul House turns the artist’s former home and studio in Pyeongchang-dong into a public cultural space. Before visiting the basement archive and galleries, take in the hillside setting to better understand the relationship between his work and daily life.
- At Museum Hanmi Samcheong, take your time moving between the main building and annex to see photography exhibitions alongside the open spaces in the architecture. Parking is limited, so public transit to Samcheong Park stop is more convenient.

Don’t link all four museums into one route. Plan Chang-dong and Geumcheon as separate half-day trips, and give Pyeongchang-dong and Samcheong-dong their own itineraries, allowing for hills and travel time. This leaves room to enjoy both the exhibitions and the architecture.
Reality check
Chang-dong, Geumcheon, Pyeongchang-dong, and Samcheong-dong are not close enough for an easy same-day route. Choose one: Chang-dong, near the subway; Geumcheon, with a park walk; hilly Pyeongchang-dong; or Samcheong-dong, accessible by bus transfer.
Allow 2–4 hours for one museum and a neighborhood walk. The Photo Library at the Seoul Museum of Photography has separate hours, so check the schedule first if you plan to use it.
According to official information, the Seoul Museum of Photography and SeMA Seo-Seoul Museum of Art are free. Fees, discounts, and reservation requirements for Kim Tschang-Yeul House and Museum Hanmi may vary by exhibition, so check the official website before paying.
In hilly Pyeongchang-dong, finish getting around before sunset. Follow gallery rules on flash, tripods, and large bags. On rainy days, shorten park and hillside walks and focus on indoor exhibitions.
If plans change
At SeMA Seo-Seoul Museum of Art, shorten the park walk and focus on the underground galleries and lobby. In Pyeongchang-dong, reduce uphill walking by combining a taxi or bus with your trip.
Don’t force the Seoul Museum of Photography and Museum Hanmi into one day. Plan separate visits in Chang-dong and Samcheong-dong.
Small tip
Before going inside, walk around the building and look at its exterior. Once in the lobby, look at how light enters. Then head up or down to the galleries. Photography rules vary by exhibition, so check the signs at the entrance first.
Final check before departure
- Check each museum’s official page for that day’s exhibitions, closures, and last admission time.
- Check where photography is allowed and whether you need to reserve in advance.
- Choose your transport with Pyeongchang-dong’s hills and limited parking in Samcheong-dong in mind.
As of October 1, 2026. The four museums are in different parts of Seoul, so choose one area rather than trying to visit all of them in half a day. Check each institution’s official information on exhibitions, reservations, closures, and photography rules again on the day of your visit.
