At a glance
- For a hotel near Vienna Central Station, compare Railjet first. For a hotel near Wien Mitte, compare the CAT replacement bus or another bus that goes there. S7 currently goes only as far as St. Marx, so you’ll need another city connection to reach Wien Mitte. Choose the Vienna Airport Bus if it has a stop near your hotel.
- The S7 airport section is outside Vienna’s core transit zone. If you have a city-only pass, check the ÖBB ticket screen for the extra section you need to reach the airport.
- Current comparison: Railjet takes about 15 minutes from the airport to Vienna Central Station; S7 goes to St. Marx, followed by a city connection; CAT uses a replacement bus to Wien Mitte; and Vienna Airport Bus stops vary by route. The CAT bus and Vienna Airport Bus are run by different operators and use separate tickets. Times shown cover the ride on the train or bus; immigration, waiting, and transfers take extra time.

Suggested itinerary
See each day's route, highlights, background and stay together in one place.
Check whether your hotel is near Wien Mitte, Vienna Central Station, or outside the central area.
Check the actual arrival station and next departure for Railjet and S7 with Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). Check the CAT replacement bus and Vienna Airport Bus stops on their respective operators’ service pages.
Plan when you’ll need a city transit pass separately from the final tram or walk to your hotel.
How to fit it in
Useful for a first trip to Vienna if you’re unsure which ticket to buy for the city’s several airport train services.
Reality check
The airport is outside Vienna’s core transit zone. During construction, S7 runs only to Wien St. Marx, so don’t choose it as a direct route to Wien Mitte. Check with ÖBB which extra rail section and city connection ticket you need, based on whether you already have a city pass.
Allow at least one hour after your flight lands for immigration, baggage delays, and buying a ticket.
As of October 4, 2026, the listed standard one-way fares are €14.90 for the CAT replacement bus and €11 for the Vienna Airport Bus. Check the total on the ÖBB ticket screen for Railjet and S7 based on your departure and arrival stations and any city pass you have. When comparing totals, account for any discounts you qualify for and include baggage charges and the cost of your final city connection.
Use marked taxi stands and official public transport instead of unofficial drivers soliciting passengers at the airport.
If plans change
Compare nearby hotel stops and the next departure for airport buses, and board at an official stop.
Check the total fare for an official taxi or prebooked car to avoid transfers.
Small tip
Instead of focusing on advertised minutes to the city center, count the transfers to your hotel. If you’re traveling late at night with two or more people, compare the official taxi fare too.
Final check before departure
- Save the final station for your hotel and a step-free exit.
- Check operating hours and the last service for your arrival time on the official ÖBB and airport websites. Save the next available departure too in case immigration or baggage collection takes longer.
- If taking a taxi, choose an official stand and set an expected fare limit.
As of October 4, 2026, planned rail construction through the end of October 2027 means S7 ends at Wien St. Marx and CAT runs a replacement bus to Wien Mitte. Railjet continues to serve Vienna Central Station. Recheck construction changes, service, and fares for your arrival date on the official ÖBB, CAT, and Vienna Airport Bus pages.
