At a glance

  • The basic order is Baegyangsa terminus/Parking Area No. 3 area → Baegyanggol → foliage approach → Ssanggyeru → Baegyangsa → return the same way. This is not a loop. Return to the Baegyangsa terminus where you got off for a bus to Jangseong Bus Terminal.
  • Doubling the 2.3 km and 30-40 minutes one way gives about 4.6 km and 60-80 minutes round trip. Allow 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes including photographs, temple visits, and rest.
  • The Korea Tourism Organization described Yaksaam Hermitage as about 20 minutes from the temple entrance, but its current distance and restrictions could not be confirmed. Ask the park information center about opening and the round trip before choosing it.
  • The Korean wild greens set meals around the Baegyangsa entrance and Bukha-myeon offer assorted greens and warm rice for a leisurely meal. Check each restaurant's current hours, menu, and prices.

Day by day

2 days and 1 night in Jangseong

The times below are an editorial itinerary example with room for rest and the return trip. They do not guarantee actual train or bus departure times or journey lengths. Finalize your plan against booking screens and with your driver.

Day 1 · Jangseong and Piram Seowon

Travel from Seoul to Jangseong on the first day and stay overnight. Locate Jangseong Station and Bus Terminal, and check both the next day's Baegyangsa-bound and Jangseong-bound services at the terminal. For sightseeing, visit only Piram Seowon by a separate vehicle, or skip it.

Day 2 · Baegyanggol out and back

Second-day example: secure a service arriving at Baegyangsa terminus by 09:30 and walk to Baegyanggol and Ssanggyeru and back from 10:00-13:00. Eat near the mountain entrance from 13:00-14:00, then take the return service you checked to Jangseong Bus Terminal. Aim to be back in Jangseong at 15:30 and choose a Seoul-bound train more than 1 hour later. If you reach the terminus late, visit only the temple and return. If current bus services do not fit, book a taxi to pick you up at that same terminus.

Reality check

Transport

Use Jangseong Station as your base and board bus 30 or 31 for Baegyangsa at Jangseong Bus Terminal. Examples of direct Baegyangsa services in the official 2025-10 timetable are 08:40, 10:40, and 11:40; the 07:00, 09:40, and 12:40 services require getting off at Yaksu-ri, 1.8 km from the terminus. Return to Jangseong Bus Terminal from the Baegyangsa terminus where you got off. If connections do not fit, reserve a round-trip taxi between Jangseong Station and Baegyangsa terminus with pickup at the same point.

Time

The older 30-40 minute one-way time gives a calculated 60-80 minutes of round-trip walking. Allow 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes with photographs, sightseeing, and rest.

Cost

Add up round-trip trains from Seoul, Jangseong-Baegyangsa transportation, lodging, meals, tolls, fuel, and parking separately.

Safety

Skip Yaksaam Hermitage when valley rocks and leaf-covered paths are wet. Do not enter Baegamsan in heavy rain, strong wind, rising valley water, or during closures.

If plans change

Light rain with the trail open

Skip Yaksaam Hermitage and walk only from the nearest permitted parking location to Ssanggyeru and Baegyangsa and back.

Heavy rain, strong wind, or closures

Piram Seowon also involves outdoor walking, so it is not an indoor alternative. Rest near Jangseong Station or return to Seoul earlier.

Small tip

For trains from the Seoul area, use Jangseong Station as the basic hub and select a service that stops there on your date. Transfer to Jangseong Bus Terminal, take bus 30 or 31 for Baegyangsa, and get off at the Baegyangsa terminus. Baegyangsa Station involves a separate route: transfer to Sageori Bus Terminal for bus 23.

Final check before departure

  • Check Baegamsan section closures and entry hours on the park service screen.
  • Check trains stopping at Jangseong or transfers at Gwangju-Songjeong, along with the last local transportation.
  • Check events, parking directions, and access restrictions with Baegyangsa and the Baegam park office.
  • Check restaurant hours and visitor facilities' opening hours and closed days, then finalize the itinerary around your actual return service.

The 2.3 km and 30-40 minutes from Parking Area No. 3 to Baegyangsa are figures from a 2022 on-site article. They are not current official national park round-trip figures. The actual distance varies with foliage-season parking directions.
