At a glance
- The official order is Visitor Information Center → Iljumun Gate → Naejangsa → Wonjeogam → Sarangui Bridge → Byeongnyeonam → Iljumun Gate. Add a short visit to Uhwajeong only after checking the route on site.
- The standard rail connection follows the park service's directions: Yongsan Station to Jeongeup Station, then transfer to Jeongeup Bus Terminal for bus 171 or 171-1 bound for Naejang Terminal. Continue from Naejang Terminal to the Visitor Support Center. When boarding, confirm your return stop and that day's terminus.
- Near the Naejangsan entrance, wild greens bibimbap, rice mixed with assorted greens, is an easy meal to find. Jeongeup's Ssanghwacha Street is downtown and requires a separate trip from the park entrance.
- Budget separately for round-trip transportation from Seoul, buses or taxis between Jeongeup and the park, lodging, meals, and parking. Notices for your visit date take priority for park transportation and facility fees.
Start at the Visitor Information Center, pass the hermitages, and finish at Iljumun Gate
This conceptual diagram shows how the starting point, temples, turnaround, and return connect. It is not a map to scale or an elevation map. Follow on-site trail signs and the park service map for the walking route.

Before choosing a route
Add the distance and time from Iljumun Gate back to the Visitor Information Center or your actual parking location.
Seoraebong and Sinseonbong are not easy extensions of the Nature Observation Trail.
Day by day
2 days and 1 night in Jeongeup
The times below are an editorial itinerary example with room for rest and the return trip. They do not guarantee actual train or bus departure times or journey lengths. Finalize your plan against booking screens and with your driver.
Plan to stay in Jeongeup on the first night. Book your round-trip trains to and from Seoul first, arrive in Jeongeup in the afternoon, and leave your bags at your lodging. Check opening hours and closed days before making Jeongeup Municipal Museum your one sightseeing stop.
Day-two example: begin heading into the park from Jeongeup at 08:00; confirm your actual drop-off point and return stop by 09:30; allow 10:00-14:00 for the Nature Observation Trail and sightseeing; 14:00-15:30 to walk back along the approach; and aim to be back in Jeongeup by 16:30. These are time allowances, not a service timetable. If you enter the park after 10:00, skip the Wonjeogam and Byeongnyeonam loop and turn back at Naejangsa. Book a seat to Seoul departing more than 1 hour after your target arrival in Jeongeup.

This suits travelers with little hiking experience or those who want to take their time with temples and autumn leaves. Seoraebong and Sinseonbong are separate hikes with more stairs and steeper slopes.
Reality check
The park service route is Jeongeup Station → Jeongeup Bus Terminal → bus 171 or 171-1 → Naejang Terminal → Naejang Visitor Support Center. Board at Jeongeup Bus Terminal, not an arbitrary stop outside the station. Return from Naejang Terminal toward Jeongeup Bus Terminal. If the terminus changes in peak season, return to the meeting point specified when you boarded. Drivers should use the parking area assigned that day and add the walk through vehicle-restricted sections.
The plan allows 3-4 hours for the official 3.9 km, 1 hour 20 minute route plus photography and sightseeing, and a separate 1-2 hours for the approach and return through vehicle-restricted sections. The announced 2.3 km from Yeonjagyo Bridge to the Visitor Information Center is the length of one section. Actual parking and the return beyond Iljumun Gate vary, so the total is not listed as 3.9 km. If access takes longer than this allowance, cancel the hermitage loop.
Add up round-trip Seoul transportation, local travel between Jeongeup and the park, 1 night's lodging, meals, and parking using actual booking screens.
Wet rocks and fallen leaves can cause slips and falls, so watch your footing even on short walks. Do not enter the mountain in heavy rain, strong wind, rising valley water, or during closures.
If plans change
Skip Wonjeogam and Byeongnyeonam, and walk only to Iljumun Gate and Naejangsa and back.
Check Jeongeup Municipal Museum's hours and closed days, and switch to an indoor visit. If it is closed, rest at your lodging or return to Seoul earlier.
Small tip
The Nature Observation Trail starts at the Visitor Information Center and ends at Iljumun Gate. Although part of it loops past hermitages back to Iljumun, the full 3.9 km does not return to its starting point.
Final check before departure
- Check national park closures and permitted entry hours.
- Check transportation in both directions between Jeongeup Station or Bus Terminal and the park.
- Check rain, wind, and sunset, and pack waterproof shoes, an outer layer, and water.
- Check restaurant hours and visitor facilities' opening hours and closed days, then finalize the itinerary around your actual return service.
The autumn 2026 vehicle restrictions list two separate sections: 2.3 km from Yeonjagyo Bridge to Naejangsan Visitor Information Center inside the temple grounds, and 2.1 km from Naejangho Parking Area to Wollyeonggyo Bridge outside them. Date-specific restrictions and parking directions on the day may increase your approach walk.
