At a glance
- The basic order is Seonunsa → Dosolcheon forest path → Jinheunggul Cave and Jangsasong Pine → Dosoram → return the same way. Naewongung and Nakjodae beyond Dosoram are separate mountain trails.
- Take a bus from Seoul Central City to Gochang, then change at Gochang Terminal to a local bus toward Seonunsa. On arrival at the terminal, check and write down both the departure time of a service via Seonunsa and the stop and last service back to Gochang. If you cannot confirm both directions, arrange a round-trip vehicle to the park entrance or shorten the walk.
- Gochang's Pungcheon eel is served salt-grilled or sauce-grilled in the Seonunsa-ro and Jujincheon dining area. Salt grilling highlights its rich flavor and firm flesh, while the sweet-salty sauce pairs well with rice.
- The first day's Dolmen Museum and historic site are not part of a walking route connected to Seonunsa. Check opening hours and arrange vehicle travel separately.

Before choosing a route
The basic out-and-back route is Seonunsa → Dosolcheon → Dosolam. Access from the parking area is separate; do not add the Naewongung steps, Nakjodae, or Cheonmabong. Turn back at Dosolcheon if access conditions or your pace do not fit.
Do not assume red spider lily flowering and autumn foliage peak at the same time.
Day by day
2 days and 1 night in Gochang
The times below are an editorial itinerary example with room for rest and the return trip. They do not guarantee actual train or bus departure times or journey lengths. Finalize your plan against booking screens and with your driver.
On the first day, travel from Seoul Central City to Gochang and stay overnight. Make the Dolmen Museum your only sightseeing stop if its hours, closed days, and separate round-trip vehicle are confirmed. For an eel meal around Jujincheon, arrange round-trip transportation to and from the restaurant that day, or skip it.
The day 2 example sets aside four hours, leaving the park entrance at 09:00 and returning to that entrance at 13:00. This is not a schedule requiring you to reach Dosolam. Before starting, ask the information center for the expected round-trip time; if returning by 13:00 is unlikely, walk only as far as Seonunsa and Dosolcheon. First confirm the departure time from the entrance of your return bus or booked vehicle, then allow for a meal and waiting. As an editorial planning example, choose a Seoul-bound bus leaving at least one hour after your confirmed expected arrival in Gochang. If the connection does not fit, take a later Seoul bus or shorten your park stay, and do not add a Jujincheon meal on the day you leave the mountain.

Google MapsA forest walk turning back at Dosoram
This suits people who enjoy a long, relatively level forest walk with Dosolcheon's water, Seonunsa, and Jangsasong Pine. Naewongung's stairs, Nakjodae, and Cheonmabong are not included in the basic out-and-back route.
Reality check
The route is Seoul Central City → Gochang Express Bus Terminal → local bus toward Seonunsa. As soon as you reach Gochang, check at the terminal both the boarding time of a service via Seonunsa and the stop and boarding time for the return to Gochang from the park. Do not plug times from a tourism page into your itinerary if their effective date cannot be verified. If you cannot arrange both directions or the connection to Seoul does not fit, book a vehicle between Gochang Terminal and the Seonunsan Provincial Park entrance or shorten the visit.
The four hours from leaving the park entrance to returning are an editorial example allowance for parking-area access, temple visits, photos, and rests. This is not an official round-trip duration or a guarantee of reaching Dosolam. If the open sections and expected round-trip time confirmed by the information center exceed that allowance, turn back at Dosolcheon or change your return transport.
Add up round-trip Seoul transportation, Gochang-Seonunsa local travel, lodging, meals, parking, temples, and facilities separately. Check eel order quantities and prices for your group size.
Rain makes fallen leaves and dirt paths slippery. During heavy rain, strong wind, or closures, do not enter the Dosolcheon trail, and skip Naewongung and Nakjodae too.
If plans change
Visit only the Seonunsa grounds and return. If Dosolcheon's dirt path is slippery, do not continue even as far as Jangsasong Pine.
Switch to the Dolmen Museum if open that day, or rest at your lodging and return to Seoul earlier.
Small tip
Red spider lilies bloom in early autumn; foliage comes later. Do not expect both scenes at their peak together throughout October (10) and November (11).
Final check before departure
- Check Seonunsa-Dosoram closures with the provincial park guide and managing authority.
- Check round-trip Seoul-Gochang and Gochang-Seonunsa transportation for your travel date.
- Check rain, wind, sunset, and parking-area access, then choose shoes, an outer layer, water, and a turnaround time.
- Check restaurant hours and visitor facilities' opening hours and closed days, then finalize the itinerary around your actual return service.
Before setting out, ask the park information center whether the Seonunsa-Dosolam section is open that day and how long the round trip should take at your walking pace. The four hours in this plan are an example allowance including sightseeing and rests, not an official route duration. Do not use a posted local bus timetable with an unclear effective date as the basis for bookings.
