At a glance

  • The basic route is Sangui Parking Area → Daejeonsa → valley with views of Sirubong → Yongchu Falls → return the same way. Add approach distance if your parking location changes.
  • Search Dong Seoul Bus Terminal services toward Juwangsan or Cheongsong for your travel date. Without a direct service, connect to local transportation at Cheongsong Bus Terminal and secure both directions between your lodging and trailhead.
  • In the Dalki Mineral Spring area, dakbaeksuk is chicken simmered in a clear, mild broth. Dakbulgogi uses minced chicken breast in spicy seasoning, cooked on a grill. Leave time for preparation and returning to the terminal.
  • Jusanji is a separate vehicle outing for a reservoir and willows growing in the water. Visit only on the first day when you have a vehicle; do not squeeze it into hiking day.

Juwang Valley · Optional vehicle outings in Cheongsong No extension beyond Yongchu Falls · Separate transportation to Jusanji and Dalki Mineral Spring This is a schematic for understanding the journey. It is not to scale and does not show actual elevation or road alignment.

See the travel guidance for each stop below.

  1. Sangui Parking Area Start and return

Add the approach distance from your actual parking or bus drop-off location.

  2. Daejeonsa Mountain temple

Enter the valley trail with views of the rock formations.

  3. Yongchu Falls Turnaround

Return the same way from the falls, without extending to Naewon-dong.

  4. Jusanji Optional vehicle outing

Visit only if transportation is secured on the first day.

  5. Dalki Mineral Spring Meal

If you choose chicken dishes in Bugok-ri on the first day, make the round trip in a prebooked vehicle. On the hiking day, eat at the entrance to Juwangsan after coming down.

Before choosing a route

Beyond Yongchu Falls

Naewon-dong and Jubong are separate hikes with added distance and gradients.

Local vehicle travel

Jusanji and Dalki Mineral Spring are outside the hiking route. Visit only with transportation secured.

Day by day

2 days and 1 night in Cheongsong

The times below are an editorial itinerary example with room for rest and the return trip. They do not guarantee actual train or bus departure times or journey lengths. Finalize your plan against booking screens and with your driver.

Day 1 · Arrive in Cheongsong

On the first day, travel by vehicle from Seoul to your Cheongsong lodging. Choose only Jusanji or Dalki Mineral Spring and chicken dishes in Bugok-ri as an additional stop. Tell the reserved vehicle provider your chosen destination and lodging, and check actual driving and meal waiting times. Skip the extra visit if it does not allow arrival at your lodging by 17:00. Do not treat these separated places as a quick transfer and combine both in a day.

Day 2 · Yongchu Falls out and back

Second-day example: leave Sangui Parking Area at 08:30, walk only to Yongchu Falls and back, and return to the same parking area by 12:30. Allow 12:30-14:00 for a meal near the entrance and waiting for the vehicle; keep the period after 14:00 for returning to Seoul. Eat at Dalki Mineral Spring on the first day, without a detour after the hike. Agree with the driver on your target Seoul arrival, rest stops, and congestion pickup location. If the long-distance connection cannot be guaranteed, add another night in Cheongsong. This schedule does not guarantee service departures or driving times.

This suits people who want valley foliage and waterfalls among gray rock formations. Plan the Jubong summit loop or extension to Naewon-dong as a different hiking day from the outset.

Reality check

Transport

The current basic plan uses your own car or a prebooked vehicle. Use Sangui Parking Area for both departure and pickup, and agree with the driver beforehand on pickup time and an alternative meeting point during congestion. Switch to a direct public transportation plan only if you can actually reserve both Dong Seoul ↔ Juwangsan journeys for your travel date in the official booking system. If you have secured only arrival in Cheongsong, do not assume an improvised connection from Cheongsong Bus Terminal to Sangui Parking Area; reserve a vehicle.

Time

Allow 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours by adding Daejeonsa, photographs, and breaks to the calculated 2 hours 30 minutes of round-trip walking. Travel to Jusanji or Dalki Mineral Spring and waiting for food are separate.

Cost

Budget separately for round-trip Seoul transportation, local Cheongsong travel, lodging, hiking snacks, parking, temples and facilities, and vehicle costs for Jusanji or Dalki Mineral Spring.

Safety

Wet stones and leaves in the gorge are slippery. Cancel the hike during heavy rain, strong wind, or trail closures; do not detour via Jubong or side trails.

If plans change

Good weather but limited energy

Visit only Daejeonsa and return. Do not add Jusanji, Jubong, or side trails as an alternative extension.

Heavy rain, strong wind, or closures

Switch to Cheongsong's Viewing Stone and Flower Stone Museum and adjacent exhibition spaces after confirming they are open that day, or rest in Cheongsong and return to Seoul earlier.

Small tip

Jusanji does not connect to the Yongchu Falls trail, and the Dalki Mineral Spring dining area is not at Juwangsan's entrance. Include either only when vehicle transportation is secured.

Final check before departure

  • Check Juwangsan closures and entry hours.
  • Check round-trip Dong Seoul travel, Cheongsong-Juwangsan transfers, and the last return connection together.
  • Check rain, wind, sunset, shoes, a waterproof outer layer, water, and a power bank.
  • Check restaurant hours and visitor facilities' opening hours and closed days, then finalize the itinerary around your actual return service.

Check Dong Seoul-Juwangsan or Cheongsong services in the booking system for your actual travel date. Do not choose a public transportation plan unless you have secured either direct services or a Cheongsong transfer, as well as your return from Juwangsan.
