At a glance
- Poděbrady is a spa town on the Elbe River. Its spa developed after mineral water was discovered in the early 20th century, and the park and colonnade remain at the heart of a stroll around town.
- Walk from the station toward the park, take a break at a café, then head down to the main square to avoid backtracking. You can skip the riverside depending on how you feel that day and still have a complete itinerary.
- The word “spa” doesn’t guarantee walk-in access like a public bath. Facilities offer different treatments, accommodation, and wellness services, so this basic itinerary doesn’t include treatments.

The times below are suggested allocations for planning purposes. If you leave late, just keep the park and lunch; there’s no need to add a boat or bike ride and extend your return time.
Walk from Poděbrady Station to the spa park just outside the station. Take your time on the park paths and through the colonnade, then make your first break on a bench or at a café.
- Spa park
- Colonnade
Head from the park to Jiřího náměstí to see the square and the statue of King George. Check restaurant menus and opening hours locally before stopping for lunch. Plan to see the castle from the outside only.
- Jiřího náměstí
- Castle exterior and lunch
From around the castle, head down to the river and walk along the Labe (Elbe River). Choose your turnaround point in advance and return the same way. A boat cruise is a separate seasonal option; you can still enjoy a riverside walk when no boats are running.
- Walk along the Elbe River
- One last break before your return train
If you’re tired, shorten the riverside section and return to the park. Leave time to walk to the station and check your platform before boarding the train to Prague.

Google MapsHow to fit it in
This day trip is best for alternating between walks and breaks rather than visiting several attractions. Make the park and lunch your core plans, and add the riverside if the weather is nice. If you want a paid water treatment or massage, ask the facility about same-day availability and booking requirements first.
Reality check
Plan for a direct train from Prague to Poděbrady, taking about 50–70 minutes each way. Depending on the departure, you’ll use either Praha hlavní nádraží or Praha Masarykovo nádraží, so check the exact station name on your ticket or schedule. The basic local itinerary is on foot. Use Czech Railways or IDOS search results for train times on your travel date.
Allow about 6–8 hours in total, including round-trip travel from Prague, with about 4–5 hours for walks and meals in town. You can make a shorter trip by skipping the riverside and visiting only the park and square.
Budget for round-trip train tickets, lunch, and a café stop. You don’t need a tour reservation for the park, views of the square, or a walk along the river. Spa treatments, the castle interior, and boat cruises are separate paid options; check what’s included and the price on the booking page.
Watch for sections of the riverside path shared by cyclists and pedestrians. If it rains, shorten the riverside walk. In seasons with shorter days, return to the station while it’s still light. Don’t make your own assumptions about the health benefits of mineral water or spa treatments.
If plans change
Keep the park walk short and spend more time at a café and over lunch. If you haven’t booked a treatment, don’t assume an indoor spa is available; consider heading back early.
Walk only between the station and spa park. Skip the main square and riverside, and take a long break at the same café if you like.
Small tip
If you’re going to relax, there’s no need to continue on to Nymburk. Leave time to linger in the park or enjoy a leisurely lunch.
Final check before departure
- Save the direct trains for both ways and the exact name of your Prague departure station.
- Make the park and lunch your basic plan, then decide whether to add the riverside based on the weather.
- If you’re interested in a treatment, ask the facility about same-day booking, access requirements, and cancellation rules.
- Save a return train in an earlier time slot too, so you’re not relying on the last train.
Boat cruises, treatments, and indoor facilities vary by season and opening days. Plan around outdoor walks and add only a service you’ve confirmed. Don’t assume your Prague train will leave from the main station.
