At a glance
- Repulse Bay is for relaxing by the sand and sea, while Stanley is for browsing the market and having a meal by the beach. Both are in southern Hong Kong Island, but neither is an attraction right beside an MTR station. If swimming is your priority, spend longer at Repulse Bay and less time in Stanley. If you want to browse the market, take a shorter walk on the beach.
- Consider Citybus route 260 toward Stanley from the Central Exchange Square Bus Terminus, and get off at the Repulse Bay Beach stop. Other southern routes, including 6X, may also work, so check Citybus for routes and live arrival information based on your starting point and travel date. After visiting Repulse Bay, catch another bus toward Stanley and use Stanley Village as your reference point for walking to the market and beach.
- If you include both areas, a manageable plan is to leave in the late morning, walk around Repulse Bay, have lunch and visit the market in Stanley, then return in the afternoon. Set aside 5–7 hours, including the trip to and from downtown and any waits. If you want time to change and swim at the beach, plan to spend less time shopping in the market. This route isn’t a good fit before a flight on your last day or a timed reservation, because traffic on the southern roads can delay you.

Central Exchange Square → get off at Repulse Bay Beach and visit the beach → bus toward Stanley → Stanley Village market and waterfront → bus from the terminus back to Central
How to connect two areas in the south
Budget for three rides: downtown to the beach, the beach to Stanley, and Stanley back to downtown. Fares vary by route and section, so calculate them using the Citybus fare table for the direction you’ll travel. Walking around the market and beach is free, but meals, water, and shopping cost extra. Before buying anything at the market, check the actual condition of packaged goods, the final price, and the exchange terms.
When you arrive in Stanley, save the stop for the return toward Central, too. Don’t assume the return stop is directly across from where you got off. While waiting for the bus, check how much time you have to get back and your remaining balance. If traffic is heavy or you’re tired, skip the second area. If there are strong winds, thunderstorms, or beach warnings, skip swimming and the beach walk; have a meal indoors if a venue is open, or spend the day downtown instead.
How to fit it in
If you leave in the morning, allow 45–60 minutes at Repulse Bay Beach, then take a bus to Stanley, where you can spend 2 hours on lunch, the market, and the waterfront. If swimming is your priority, spend longer at Repulse Bay and skip Stanley.
Reality check
Use Citybus 260 toward Stanley as a route option to connect Repulse Bay Beach and Stanley Village. Check that day’s route, stops, and return service through official sources.
Allow 5–7 hours total for the round-trip bus ride, transfer waits, and time at the beach, market, and for a meal. Add extra time for traffic and weekend waits.
Budget separately for the bus, meals, market shopping, and beach gear.
Don’t swim in strong sunshine, rough waves, or thunderstorms. Follow beach safety signs and lifeguard instructions.
If plans change
Skip swimming and just walk along the beach, or cancel the south coast outing altogether if the rain is heavy. Much of Stanley Market is outdoors, too.
If relaxing at the beach is your priority, return from Repulse Bay Beach toward Central. If you want to visit the market and eat, take a bus straight to Stanley Village.
Small tip
Routes 6, 6X, and 260 have different stops and service intervals, so check the destination and whether the bus stops at Repulse Bay Beach and Stanley Village on Citybus before boarding. In midsummer, the beach has little shade around midday.
Final check before departure
- Save the stops at Exchange Square, Repulse Bay Beach, and Stanley Village, along with the direction of the return bus.
- Check beach safety and Observatory warnings
- Bring drinking water and sun protection, and decide whether to swim.
Check the operating days, stops, and last buses for routes 6, 6X, and 260, as well as lifeguard hours and weather warnings, again on the day of your visit. Do not swim when lifeguards are off duty.
