At a glance

  • If you’re only visiting Weggis, take the boat both ways. It takes about 45 minutes from the pier in front of Lucerne station. With the 50% Eurail or Interrail discount, a round-trip second-class ticket costs CHF 21.50.
  • A Eurail Flex Pass travel day means using one day from your set number of travel days. You don’t need to use one just to get the boat discount. Your pass must still be valid in Switzerland on that day.
  • If you’re already using a travel day for another train trip, compare the train-and-bus option too. Take the S3 train from Lucerne to Küssnacht and use your pass, then buy a separate ticket for bus 502 from Küssnacht to Weggis. Compare the bus round-trip fare with the discounted round-trip boat ticket.

Things to Do in Weggis

After getting off the boat, take in the lake on a walk, relax near the pier, and then return to Lucerne. For a short walk, stay around Dorfplatz. For a longer walk, follow the lakeshore toward Lido. You don’t need to visit both. Check your return boat time before setting off so you can plan how long to stay.
