At a glance

  • Yat Lok is on the ground floor of Conwell House, 34-38 Stanley Street. Add it as a roast goose stop while exploring Central’s side streets. There’s no need to travel back and forth between here and Kam’s in Wan Chai to rank the two restaurants on the same day.
  • Michelin recommends a quarter goose with lai fun noodles. Lai fun is served here with clear broth. If you’re dining alone, check how the meat is served with the noodle and rice dishes, then order a single bowl. For two or three people, compare a shared meat platter with individual bowls of rice to gauge portions.
  • The meat is served on the bone, so the size of the plate doesn’t tell you how much you’ll actually eat. If you request a particular cut, ask first whether there’s an extra charge or restrictions on the available order sizes. If you’ve already had beef or shrimp noodles, save room for just one more snack. After your meal, head in one direction, either toward Tai Kwun or Sheung Wan.

Day by day

Suggested itinerary

See each day's route, highlights, background and stay together in one place.

Before your visit

Check your Central side-street plans and whether the restaurant is open. If you’re solo, consider a rice or noodle dish; if you’re with others, consider a platter of meat to share.

At the restaurant

If the line is longer than 30 minutes or the goose has sold out, skip the wait and choose another roast meat dish. Once seated, start with the standard menu.

Afterward

After your meal, continue walking in one direction, either toward Tai Kwun or Sheung Wan. Decide on dessert based on how full you are.

How to fit it in

Avoid the lunch rush by a little, and keep in mind that items may sell out later in the day.

Reality check

Transport

Fit this in as a quick meal between Central Station and a walk in Sheung Wan; avoid making a special round trip by taxi.

Time

Allow 30–45 minutes for the meal and 20–40 minutes for a wait during peak hours.

Cost

Divide the price of a shared platter by the number of diners, then add each person’s rice, noodles, and drink. Michelin’s price category doesn’t confirm the actual cost, so check the menu on site. If you’ve budgeted HK$150 per person, choose cuts and drinks that fit within that amount. This is a planning example, not a statement of current restaurant prices.

Safety

Watch out for bones and hot juices, and avoid bringing large bags into the tight seating area.

If plans change

If the goose is sold out

Choose another meat on the menu, such as char siu or roast pork, or finish your meal elsewhere in Central. Going to Kam’s adds an MTR ride and another wait.

If a wait of more than 30 minutes feels too long

Switch to a noodle or rice meal in Central and keep your planned walk toward Tai Kwun or Sheung Wan. Don’t keep walking uphill without eating just because you plan to come back.

Small tip

Choose Kam’s for an itinerary in Wan Chai and Yat Lok for one in Central to avoid unnecessary travel.

Final check before departure

  • Save 34-38 Stanley Street and the direction of your next side-street walk.
  • Decide whether you want a noodle or rice dish for yourself or a meat platter to share.
  • Check for extra charges for specific cuts, the day’s opening hours, and payment methods. Set 30 minutes as your maximum wait.

As of October 3, 2026, Michelin’s restaurant page lists daily hours of 10:00–20:30. The phone number is +852 2524 3882. Contact the restaurant directly about temporary closures, whether it accepts reservations, and which cuts of goose are still available. Don’t assume its signature dish will be available if you arrive just before closing.
