At a glance
- Group Old Town Square and Josefov on day one. Check the last admission time before visiting the Jewish Museum.
- On day two, take the tram up to Prague Castle and walk down to Malá Strana. For the castle interiors, choose only buildings that are open that day.
- On day three, visit just one place that fits your departure time, such as Vyšehrad or the National Museum.
- The Old Royal Palace will be closed to general visitors from September 3 to October 1, 2026. During this period, follow a route through the cathedral and along the castle walls instead.
Day by day
Suggested itinerary
See each day's route, highlights, background and stay together in one place.
If Josefov is open: visit the synagogues and cemetery → Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock → Charles Bridge. If you arrive late or it’s a closure day, explore the Old Town first and move your Josefov visit to another day.
Charles Bridge early → Prague Castle → Malá Strana → Vltava River at night
Vyšehrad or a café stroll → train departure
History and context
Prague Castle was a center of power for the Kingdom of Bohemia and the Holy Roman Empire.
Traces of the Reformation, the Habsburgs, communism, and the transition to democracy overlap throughout the city.
Places and meals
Walk here early on day two rather than during the day on your first day.

- A beer hall is a place to enjoy a meal and drinks together.
- Goulash and pork dishes are generous portions, making them a better fit for dinner than lunch.
How to fit it in
Even on a 3-day, 2-night trip, you can see Prague’s highlights if you plan your timing well.
Reality check
Walk around the Old Town and take the tram up the Castle Hill. Choose a 24- or 72-hour pass based on how many times you’ll actually ride, not how often you’ll transfer.
The itinerary’s timing is key: Charles Bridge early, Prague Castle in the morning, and a beer hall in the evening.
For Prague Castle and Josefov, choose which interiors you want to visit before buying tickets. Check the receipt details for meals and beer.
Keep your bag closed in crowds around the Astronomical Clock and Charles Bridge. Use only taxi, currency exchange, and ticket options with clearly stated terms.
If plans change
Stick to the buildings that are open and the walk down to Malá Strana. Don’t force a visit to a closed interior into another day’s schedule.
Visit the Old Town and National Museum, and move paid visits in Josefov to an open day.
Small tip
Skip day trips on a 3-day, 2-night visit. Prague’s Castle District, Old Town, and Vyšehrad each have plenty to offer.
Final check before departure
- Check Josefov’s opening hours first on day one: the Jewish Museum is closed on Saturdays and Jewish holidays. If it’s open, visit Josefov before Old Town Square. If it’s closed, visit the Old Town and National Museum instead.
- Make Prague Castle your first visit on day two. The day before, check which buildings are open and when last admission is. Skip closed buildings such as the Old Royal Palace, and choose just two or three sites that are actually open: the accessible parts of St. Vitus Cathedral, St. George’s Basilica, and Golden Lane.
- Save your airport route based on the station nearest your accommodation. If you arrive late, check the last available connection you can catch after baggage claim and your check-in time. The Airport Express and regular PID routes have different destinations and fares.
- Finish sightseeing at least 90 minutes before your train departs. Choose either Vyšehrad or the National Museum, whichever is between your accommodation and the station. Leave your suitcase at your accommodation or in station storage, and allow time for the journey.
- Before booking paid attractions, check the official ticket’s validity period and included sites. If you arrive late on day one or Josefov is closed, move your visit to another day and start with an outdoor walk through the Old Town.
Opening hours vary by building at Prague Castle; religious holidays in Josefov and transit construction can change the order of these three days. Start each day with the paid attraction that closes earliest.
