At a glance
- For a total of 6 nights, stay 1 night in Lucerne, 1 in Bern, 3 in Grindelwald or Interlaken, and 1 in Lausanne or Montreux.
- For the three Jungfrau days, consider the Korea distributor’s 3-day VIP Pass. Based on the 2026 adult coupon price of CHF 245 listed by the Korea distributor, check how to obtain and present one coupon per person before buying tickets, and which routes are included on your travel dates. Coverage includes one round trip to Jungfraujoch, plus travel to Männlichen, First, and other destinations, only on the operating routes listed. According to the Korea distributor, when you buy a summer VIP Pass, one seat reservation for a round trip to Jungfraujoch is free at a local station, but seats may not be available for your preferred date and time. To secure a specific time in advance, compare the separate CHF 10 online reservation on the official Jungfrau website and its change and cancellation terms. Check activity, accommodation, and other reservation costs separately.
- If you visit Lausanne and Montreux in one day, choose what matters most: Lausanne Old Town and Cathedral, or the Montreux lakeside and Château de Chillon. If you also add the Lavaux vineyards, shorten your visit inside Château de Chillon to make room.
- Flying home from Geneva lets you keep heading west with little backtracking. If you fly home from Zurich, you’ll have a long trip from Montreux to the airport. Reverse the route or move your last night closer to Zurich.
Day by day
Suggested itinerary
See each day's route, highlights, background and stay together in one place.
Assuming you arrive at Zurich Airport in the morning, leave your bags in Lucerne. Walk to Chapel Bridge, the Old Town, and either the Musegg Wall or the Lion Monument. Take a short boat trip on the lake only if your arrival time and the weather allow.
Check SBB trains from Zurich Airport to Lucerne. If you arrive in the late afternoon, see Chapel Bridge and the riverside, and skip the rest. Google Maps 길찾기
Take a morning train to Bern, leave your bags, then walk in one direction from the Zytglogge clock tower through the Old Town arcades and past the Federal Palace to Bear Park. Add the Rose Garden only if the views are clear and you still have energy.
Take a direct or connecting train from Luzern to Bern. Stay within walking distance of Bern station for an early start the next day. Google Maps 길찾기
Take an early train to your reserved accommodation in Interlaken or Grindelwald first and leave your luggage there. A village accommodation in Grindelwald and Grindelwald Terminal are in different locations, so allow for travel between your accommodation and the terminal. After enjoying the view from Männlichen, take the cableway down to Wengen and return by train via Wengen → Lauterbrunnen → Interlaken Ost. If you’re staying in Grindelwald, choose either the route with a transfer back to your accommodation or the shorter option of returning to the terminal on the gondola you took up. If visibility at the summit is exceptionally clear, you can swap this day with Jungfraujoch on day 4.
From Bern, travel to your reserved accommodation in Interlaken or Grindelwald, leave your luggage, then go to Grindelwald Terminal and take the Männlichen gondola. Check the time you’ll first use the pass and the last service for the Wengen cableway and your return train or gondola. Google Maps 길찾기
Choose the day with the clearest expected views during your three-day stay for your visit to Jungfraujoch, and secure seat reservations for that date and your round-trip times. If you want to change your visit date based on the forecast, first check with the ticket seller whether seats are available for the new date and the terms for changing or canceling your existing reservation. If changes are not allowed, don’t push ahead with the climb on your original reservation date; compare low-altitude alternatives and their costs instead. Follow your reserved times via Eigergletscher to the summit, visit the Sphinx and Ice Palace, then rest at your accommodation in the afternoon.
Make a round trip from Grindelwald Terminal via Eigergletscher to Jungfraujoch. If you’re struggling to adjust to the altitude or develop a headache, shorten your visit and descend right away. Google Maps 길찾기
Take the First gondola up and see the Cliff Walk. According to official information, the round trip to Bachalpsee takes about 2 hours from the First upper station, so set out by working backward from the last downhill gondola to allow time for the lake round trip, a rest, and the boarding line. If you’re short on time, skip the lake. Flyer and Glider have separate fees and waiting times, so check those and choose only one.
Ride the Grindelwald First gondola up and back. If it stops running because of strong winds or maintenance, switch to the Lauterbrunnen Valley or a walk around Interlaken. Choose Mürren only if you have checked round-trip service on the access transport and the local weather. Google Maps 길찾기
Head toward Lake Geneva early and visit Lausanne Cathedral and the Old Town first. In the afternoon, go to the Montreux lakeside. If you want to tour the inside of Château de Chillon, arrive well before the last admission time. Avoid trying to explore both Lavaux and Château de Chillon in depth.
If you’re staying in Grindelwald, first add the travel and transfer time from your accommodation to Grindelwald station and then on to Interlaken Ost. Then travel Interlaken Ost → Bern → Lausanne. If you’re staying in Lausanne, leave your luggage at your accommodation, visit Montreux, then return to Lausanne for the night. If you’re staying in Montreux, either make a brief visit to Lausanne with your large bags or leave them in a station locker, then be sure to retrieve them before heading to Montreux. Check the Lausanne → Montreux → Veytaux-Chillon connection and the return trip to your accommodation on SBB. Google Maps 길찾기
Leave your accommodation in time to arrive at the airport 3 hours before your flight. Even if your flight is in the afternoon, don’t add another city; leave time for a lakeside walk or breakfast instead.
Check with SBB whether there is a direct train from Lausanne or Montreux to Geneva Airport. Allow extra time for connections on days with engineering works. Google Maps 길찾기
How to fit it in
It’s better to leave three days for the Jungfrau Region than to add another city. If the alpine weather is poor, you can switch the order of Jungfraujoch, Männlichen, and First, and you won’t need to change hotels every day. Visit Lausanne and Montreux on the same day, but don’t try to see every attraction in both cities.
Reality check
Use SBB trains for travel between cities. The route is Zurich Airport to Lucerne on Day 1, Lucerne to Bern on Day 2, Bern to your Jungfrau Region base on Day 3, the Jungfrau Region to Lausanne and Montreux on Day 6, and Geneva Airport on Day 7. Compare a regular travel pass, a Saver Day Pass, and point-to-point tickets for the same travel dates and discount-card conditions.
Allow 8–10 hours each for Lucerne and Bern, including travel, and 5–9 hours each day in the Jungfrau Region. Day 6 is a long day of 11–13 hours because travel from Interlaken to Lausanne takes roughly 2 hours or more. Plan to see only one or two highlights in each of Lausanne and Montreux.
Budget separately for long-distance trains to and from the airport and between cities, accommodation, meals, First activities, and admission to Château de Chillon, in addition to the 3-day VIP Pass. A Swiss-wide travel pass is not always the cheapest option, so compare its cost with the total for SBB point-to-point tickets and Saver Day Passes for the same dates.
On your 3 mountain days, follow MeteoSwiss alerts and on-site operating updates first. Skip ridge walks when thunderstorms, strong winds, or snow are forecast. On long travel days, aim for connections at least one or two trains before the last train. Keep luggage out of aisles at stations and on trains.
If plans change
Move Jungfraujoch to a clear day. On an overcast day, choose a lower-altitude plan, such as Lauterbrunnen Valley, Trümmelbach Falls if open, or a walk around Interlaken.
Limit your Lucerne sightseeing to Chapel Bridge and the Old Town. Keep Bern and all 3 days in the Jungfrau Region, and skip either Château de Chillon or Lavaux during your time in Lausanne and Montreux.
Don’t travel straight from Montreux to Zurich Airport on your last day. Travel to Bern or Zurich on the evening of Day 6 and stay overnight. Alternatively, cut one day in western Switzerland and spend 2 nights in Lucerne.
Small tip
This plan includes 6 sightseeing days and 1 departure day. If you arrive in Europe late or fly into and out of Zurich, you’ll have less time for sightseeing on the first or last day. To keep the trip manageable, skip Lausanne and Montreux or extend the trip to 8 days.
Final check before departure
- Confirm whether your flights are into Zurich and out of Geneva, then finalize the order of your 6 nights’ accommodation.
- Save the intercity trains and the long Day 6 journey in the SBB app.
- Check the requirements for obtaining your VIP Pass and complete your Jungfraujoch seat reservation.
- Check Männlichen and First operating dates and the last descent times.
- Check luggage storage at the Lausanne Tourist Office or your accommodation’s check-in time, and confirm Château de Chillon’s last admission time.
This itinerary assumes mountain transportation is operating from late spring through fall. Männlichen is scheduled to operate May 23–October 25, 2026. According to official Jungfrau information, a seat reservation for a specific time on the round trip between Eigergletscher or Kleine Scheidegg and Jungfraujoch is mandatory from May 1–October 31. Recheck train construction work and mountain service for your actual travel dates.
